Lyrics

I looked on several pages and even a unmentioned(he knows who he is) wikipedia Admin stated that lyrics don't belong in a song. I don't want to get into an edit war, but the lyrics either need to be shortened to a reference, or removed.DeadlyOps (talk) 00:00, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

What will we do with these FAs: Amazing Grace, Dixie (song), My Belarusy, National Anthem of Russia, Old Dan Tucker, and On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away? Don't FAs need to meet style guidelines (requirement 2)? I hope we didn't open up a can of worms here. My guess is that for traditional music pages, 80% have the lyrics, and sadly for many of them, that is about all they have. Personally, I had hoped to give some depth to the subject, but I can see your point, and am willing to do whatever consensus turns out to be. I have to agree with the creator/editor of this site that there is no justification for the removal of the lyrics. This is a very old song long out of copyright that has notability in that it has been found in several countries and recorded by a number of notable artists. As a traditional ballad it can be classed with the songs mentioned above. When creating or editing articles on traditional songs I did not come across any objection in the Wikipedia Manual of Style or related articles to quoting the lyrics of a traditional ballad.
