Small text change[edit]

Changed to "several" music videos on Illusions albums. Most of the Illusion videos were simple performance videos just like their older videos.

Fair use rationale for Image:Don'tcry.jpg[edit]

Image:Don'tcry.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:25, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Additional guy in video[edit]

it can be seen that another guy sings along with axl in this video... who is that???

The guy in the music video is Shannon Hoon, he sung backing vocals on 'Don't Cry' and some other 'Use Your Illusion' songs. Bucketheader 17:46, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
they are from the same town, not just the same state.(Lafayette) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.46.55.98 (talk) 18:29, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Steven Adler credit[edit]

I added Steven Adler to the credits list. Not sure if he was credited for his work on the actual single, but since the third version and demo of the song is included on the single, and it was recorded during Appetite for Destruction sessions in 1986, then Steven Adler did indeed play on that version of the song and not Matt Sorum.

At the very least I think Adler's involvement with the song could be specified somewhere in the article in a more accurate fashion than just that it was "recorded during the Appetite for Destruction sessions in 1986" as he plays on one of the tracks featured on the single. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bacongull (talkcontribs) 14:44, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gilby Clarke[edit]

Does anyone know why Gilby is not in the Video ? Nice Greetings from Austria ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:62:4A78:5701:B5F6:CEC4:50D3:9E7E (talk) 19:10, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 12 April 2016[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: No consensus to move. Supports outweigh opposes by a small margin of 6:4, but the opposes make a pretty compelling point regarding page views, and long term significance doesn't seem to be a problem for a 25 year old song. All in all, I don't see a consensus here.  — Amakuru (talk) 15:31, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

– I don't think stats are necessary to provide which is most popular. In fact, the title itself is very generic and may not associate with the band's song very much. George Ho (talk) 15:48, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose I don't think stats are necessary to provide which is most popular. I mean, yeah, kinda. All the "Don't Cry"s combined get a total of 47,366 hits. 42,805 of those are from this song, so that's over 90% of them going to this song. From what I can tell from a quick search, this song also appears to be the main "Don't Cry" referred to in media (when it isn't a partial title match). Nohomersryan (talk) 17:35, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support this song barely registers in Google Books, and is not substantially more notable than all other topics combined. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:43, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per Edith Piaf and recentism for this much newer song -- 70.51.45.100 (talk) 05:35, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Nohomersryan. Of course we need to look at usage stats. And they apparently show that the current setup is right. By significance as well. Dohn joe (talk) 14:55, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Don't Cry should be the dab per nom and it makes it easier to spot incorrect incoming links. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 06:45, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose there is evidence that this is the clear primary topic. SSTflyer 03:19, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom and previous supporters. Neodop (talk) 14:00, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support How do we know people going to the Don't Cry article are looking for the Guns N Roses song? It's a generic title, so of course it's going to have more hits than anything else. It should point to the dab page. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 23:51, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • Many people access Wikipedia articles through Google Search results, not by typing in the title in the Wikipedia search box. Of course we know this is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC because most search results for "Don't Cry" are about the song. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a dictionary for terms. SSTflyer 05:18, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. I'm surprised no one has linked the actual pageview stats. As said above, this article receives 90% of all views for ambiguous topics. This is the clear-cut WP:PRIMARYTOPIC; we shouldn't bend over backward to throw roadblocks in readers' way.--Cúchullain t/c 14:33, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Versions with different lyrics[edit]

Does anybody know if the demo version of the song has the original lyrics?

What was the reason for producing an alternate set of lyrics to the original? I always felt the original had a much better flow in terms of words and metrics.

Don't Cry disambiguation[edit]

Should the Don't Cry disambiguation page include all song names that start with "Don't Cry", like the Madonna song, but also others? 84.250.167.86 (talk) 13:53, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
