No

"Adolf Hitler was said to have demanded the execution of all Dogues de Bordeaux because of their devout loyalty to their owners[citation needed]."

Ha ha ha. Yeah right. Nice insight into the fantasy lives of dog freaks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.242.239.167 (talk) 16:03, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

"...with a strange addiction to BBC Radio 4..."-Appearance section

Ummm...? Where did this come from? Is this even true? Even if it is, it is not related to the dog's appearance and I'm not sure readers would want this information, and it confuses the reader. Edited out of the article.

Nonsense

The following sentence is nonsense. Could someone who understands what it is trying to say please rewrite it? "Dogue de Bordeaux, also called French Mastiff or Bordeaux Bulldog, lower to the ground than is long, well muscled and stocky Molosser breed with a heavy, broad head."Campolongo (talk) 08:59, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Just done a quick edit on the grammar for it, although it obviously needs a reference. Miyagawa (talk) 17:08, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

New Image

I wish there was at least some discussion before my photo was removed and replaced with the current one. I recognized the problem that the photo didn't show the entire animal, and would have understood if it had been replaced by one that did. However, it has been replaced with a poorly framed and unimpressive photo that shows even less of the animal than mine does.

Litter size

There is request for clarification tag for the litter size asking for standard deviation and range. The data does not present the standard deviation but uses the standard error of the mean(SEM). Litter size at birth is 8.1 with SEM 0.8. n=26 litters. range (2-17) is for all litters. Litter size at one week is 6.1 with SEM 0.5. No range indicated.--Dodo bird (talk) 02:35, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Article fails to address health issues

Sorry, but a large portion of people looking up dog breeds on Wikipedia are these looking at the pitfalls and attributes of a particular breed, and this article fails to address any health concerns. Mastiffs, as a general category of dog have a host of health problems that his article fails to mention. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.84.48.41 (talk) 05:08, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

I've added a few health conditions. --Dodo bird (talk) 06:17, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Info on Temperament

There is no information on the general temperament of this breed anywhere in the article (or if there is, it is very hidden in other sections). Could someone who is more familiar with this breed add some info about their temperament? Opendestiny (talk) 16:04, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

The article states that the AKC breed standard is minimum weights of 115 lbs for male and 100 for female. This is incorrect, the AKC standard is: . Size - Dogs: 23½ to 27 inches at the withers. Bitches: 23 to 26 inches at the withers. Weight - Dogs at least 110 pounds. Bitches at least 99 pounds 72.2.249.147 (talk) 20:17, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Lifespan

The avg lifespan is currently listed as 5-6 years, down from 8 the last time I visited this page, and the citation provided is a dead link to nowhere remotely related to dogue de bordeaux lifespan or statistics. I am having difficulty finding what I would consider a worthy citation, but I've got a 9 year old Dogue sitting at home right now who is just starting to show signs of old age. The estimates of 10-12 years provided by Google, dog info sites, et al. seem much more accurate. If this isn't reverted back to a more realistic statistic, and more in line with those commonly found throughout the web, I will make the change myself using a citation that at least actually links what it says it links. Brakoholic (talk) 18:00, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

The link was to the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America's website. They changed their url to ddbsa.org. It no longer host the survey, but that does not make the citation invalid. (see Wikipedia:Link rot) They still have the page for their longevity program. A Dogue who is 7 years or older is considered an "old timer" or "veteran". What does that tell you about the breed's lifespan? The DDBSA survey of almost 200 dogs gives an average of 5.5. The veterinary database with 21 dogs also gives the same average. If that is not enough, the Finnish Kennel Club's database gives an average of 5 years 10 months for 101 dogs. --Dodo bird (talk) 23:10, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I would like to see a section added to this page to recognise well known dogs of this breed. The most well known being the dog named 'Hooch' in the film titled 'Turner and Hooch'. The section could be called 'Famous Dogue de Bordeaux' or 'In popular culture' - sub section 'In film' or something to that effect. The dog who played Hooch was named Beasley. I've added a couple of links below as sources. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1212798/ http://www.notinthedoghouse.com/dogue-de-bordeaux-dog-in-turner-and-hooch/

I have included some links below as sources confirming this breeds involvement with the film. http://www.dogbreedslist.info/all-dog-breeds/Dogue-de-Bordeaux.html http://www.dogster.com/lifestyle/get-to-know-the-dogue-de-bordeaux-the-national-guard-dog-of-france http://dogtime.com/dog-breeds/dogue-de-bordeaux#/slide/1 http://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/dogue-de-bordeaux/detail/

and it could have a link to this page aswell. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turner_%26_Hooch

Thanks for your time. -- Aap0k (talk) 06:22, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
