Merge[edit]

We've got two articles on this album so I think the other one should be merged with this one since it's more in line with wikipedia standards. Ted87

Incorrect tracks[edit]

  • "Hate It Or Love It Part 9000" featuring Mary J. Blige (produced by Cool and Dre) [1] is not a real track. Cool and Dre in the interview said, there is a track which is akin to Hate it or Love it, multiplied by 9000. It is simply exaggerating the fact that the a track will be on the success level of Hate It or Love it (from The Documentary album). I have removed it as such.

Why ain't "Rub My Nipples 50" and "Touch My Brown Eye" been posted as confirmed tracks? The instrumentals for these were leaked by The Game, and they are on YouTube as well. That's enough proof for me that they are on the album, and I'm informed that "Rub My Nipples 50" is a 9th Wonder production, and "Touch My Brown Eye" is produced by Dr Dre.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigger And Better (talkcontribs)

All that is confirmed is that they have been recorded, not that they will actually appear on the final track listing.--Ted87 07:27, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can I ask that you refrain from removing "Rub My Nipples 50" and "Touch My Brown Eye" from the unconfirmed section? I have it in good authority that these WILL be on the album. But because there's no official news that they are on the album, then at least keep them in the unconfirmed or tentative section. Remember that the instrumentals for these tracks have been leaked - that's more that can be said for some of the other tentative tracks.

The Doctor's/Devils Advocate[edit]

The name of the album was changed because The Game switched record labels, to Geffen Records. [2] --Darkneonflame 06:44, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are wrong assuming this, it is still called The Doctor's Advocate. Dr Dre is still working on the album. TRUE SOURCE is this (from Game's official site posted by a mod on there) [3]. Now change the name back because it is The Doctor's Advocate not the Devils Advocate, that was a miswording of it that SOHH did by accident. Theres no official news to change the name to The Devils Advocate. --—Preceding unsigned comment added by Jsnakej (talkcontribs)

According to your source it says that the name of the album is The Devils Advocate.--Darkneonflame 07:18, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is a typo that both sites typed, that source is actually that article copied the original the yours was based off of was deleted. I will look again for it and find it for you. In your source they called it The Doctor's Advocate and The Devil's Advocate, but didn't explain their change. I don't think thats enough proof. --JsnakeJ 07:22, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But the reason he called the album The Doctors Advocate was because of Dr. Dre and that he was under his record label. Since he switched labels i would think he changed it. I dont think you should change it anymore, or at least untill we have enough proof for either of our statements. Well just keep it at Doctors, but im pretty sure that it will become devils --Darkneonflame 08:05, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We're best off leaving it where it is now until there is actual proof. (The Doctor's Advocate (album)) The album was named to pay respect to Dr. Dre, not because he was on his label. Sorry for the mess-up that I caused with this. --JsnakeJ 08:07, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Atleast we dont have all those different pages. Well figure it out when it gets closer to the release date.--Darkneonflame 08:08, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Game is stil calling it The Doctor's Advocate, although no mention of Dre produced tracks. [4] 83.147.134.22 14:14, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Devil's Advocate is the name of a mixtape made by The Game in 2004--Iplars 04:29, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UK Bonus Track 'I'm Chilin'[edit]

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the producer of the above song, will.i.am is listed in the page, but Cool & Dre have the song listed as being produced by them (please see their page) and some people belive it was produced by The Neptunes. Could someone please verify its actual producer?

23/03 I have a copy of the UK version of the Doctor's Advocate and it lists in the CD inlay that the producer for the bonus track 'Chillin' is produced by will.i.am, hence the song featuring fellow Black Eyed Pea Fergie. This should be altered in the respective wikipedia pages to avoid misleading and confusion. Cool & Dre were meant to have a track on the album but it was pulled in the last minute for unknown reasons. The Game has always wanted to have a track produced by the Neptunes but Pharrell does not want to collaborate with him, hence this obvious mimic of their style.

Are you sure? I could have sworn it was a Chad and Pharrell produced track. will.i.am does not use the same synthesizers the Neptunes are known for. This sound is very distinct and I would doubt will.i.am (such a notable producer in his own right) would produce as a quiet-replica of another production? I think assuming Fergie is in it is a little too far. Furthermore, grounduphiphop.com and many other sites reference the Neptunes as the producers. I think it should be left blank or back to the Neptunes. Also, if you could give a source of where you heard Pharrell doesn't want to work with Game, that would help. I have heard that Pharrell is a fan of Game and they both have interest in collaborating.

Justafan34 06:15, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, since the guy has a copy of the UK CD, then I guess we should listen to him, assuming he is telling the truth. --- Realest4Life 12:08, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Best Buy Track[edit]

I've purchased the Best Buy version of Doctor's Advocate and there was no bonus track. Just two CD's with two diffrent covers. Maybe it was just the Alternative cover because it didn't say DVD on it.

It Is A Bonus Track If You Buy It From Best Buy[edit]

If You Bought It From Best Buy Look For A Red Card In Side The Case And It Will To You What To Do To Get The Bonus Track

Fergie?[edit]

are we sure that it's fergie on the bonus track of the album? it sounds like her, kind of. I guess.

Who acutally produces this bonus track? will.i.am, The Neptunes or Cool 'N Dre?

Things change. He 'confirmed' those tracks months ago, and between then, he's left Aftermath and recorded dozens of new songs, some of which ultimately ended up being more suitable for the album. I'm a bit surprised myself (i was looking forward to hearing some of the stuff Cool & Dre hyped up, like Street ryders, Stop), but that's how the music industry works. Besides, if you live in England, you have the opportunity to get a bonus track (I'm Chillin) which was supposedly produced by Cool & Dre (though some places it says Neptunes, it even features Pharrel), but that's limited release.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.217.74.204 (talkcontribs)

Of you've heard the song you would know that it is Fergie that sings in it. And there are many sources that say that the track was produced my Cool & Dre. http://xxlmag.com/online/?p=6165, http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/audio/id.843/title.the-game-im-chillin are both sources that say that Cool & Dre produced it. --Darkneonflame 23:16, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am from the UK and I have the UK album with the Bonus Track and it's produced by will.i.am and it IS Fergie. Paul.Peat 10:37, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Will.i.am produced it, the UK inlay says so. Some one fix it, its not the Neptunes.

That is not Fergie game would never sing that assface

Why Dr. Dre is not on Doctor's Advocate[edit]

"While it is not known for sure why Dre decided to not contribute to this album, The Game's departure from Aftermath has been cited as a possibility." Shouldn't this line be removed? There is an article on the official Billboard website writen on November 12 where The Game was interviewed. He says that they decided not to have Dr. Dre on the album because he wanted to prove that he could make a successful album without the help of Dr. Dre or 50 Cent. He also says that there is no love lost between him and Dr. Dre. - Unregistered. Nov. 18, 2006. Dr.dre acctually did produce some of the beats on the album he was just not given credit for them.

I don't think there's anything going on, i think The Game's just been a little quite about the issue. The most likely thing is that Dre did make beats for game, it's just that none of the songs he produced were good enough/suitable for the final cut, so game decided to make a bit of a story out of it and use it as an awesome promotional tool. Also, the beats on the album are possibly not as good as Documentary, but does it really make a huge difference? Maybe Game, His manager, Dre and Iovine decided that because it didn't(make a difference), they might as well hype it up even more by saying that the Co-execs of Documentary aren't there this time, it's just Game all alone. There's also a theory that dre does produce on the album, cos song beats like 'Lookin at you' use similar instruments to what dre uses, and thinl about it, who is Ervin 'EP' Pope? Just a theory though.

Ervin "EP" Pope worked with Kanye West on The College Dropout, he plays piano.

In specific, that theory stated that tracks Dre supposedly produced (Lookin at you, Cali vacation, Too Much, Da Shit) were actually accredited to the co-producer, rather than Dre. Dre does more co-production (with Elizondo and Mel-Man). Cali vacation and Da shit are definately not his, thet don't seem like it. Dre has co-produced with Storch before (Westside story, Break ya neck) but i thing Too Much is just storch. Lookin at you is suspicious because Ervin pope, plays piano and is more of a co-producer (look at kanye's album) so it doesn't look like he produced lookin at you by himself. I think dre has more influence on the album than we're all lead to believe, whether or not he played a hand in actually making the beats. The answer is 50 Cent forced Dre to stay off the album. Dre got credit for nothing because he produced nothing.

Can someone who is registered please temporarly lock this page. Every time I refresh my screen, I see a completely different number for the first week sales. Someone who actually knows the first week sales please put the correct number. Thankyou. - Unregistered Nov. 20, 2006: 4:17 PM EST

Also, every time i pull up the site someone has changed the SAMPLES portion of The Doctor's Advocate. First it was another column on the chart, now it is a seperate chart with half of the data.

Thanks

Album Sales[edit]

We have a chart at the bottom, which is excellent, but there seems to be some confusion over the 1st week sales. The best figure going around is that he sold +150,000 on the first day, and is on track to sell 400,000-500,000 and take the number 1 spot. G-unit stans have gotta stop interfering with this thread, you guys are just jealous because Soundscan officially reported that Mobb deep and Lloyd Banks can't make 300,000, Hot Rod won't even be certified Wood, and Bucks album aint comin out. No need to have variations of this, 400k-500k first week esitmate, 150k on first day. It's not even necessary to have estimate 1st week sales, though many people are referring to this page as proof.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Doja (talkcontribs)

I see at the bottom of the page is a chart for sales but it says that it was # 1 in its first week on the billboard 200 but that is fales I have checked www.billboard.com since the album first came out on 11/14/06 and i have never seen it # 1 at all—Preceding unsigned comment added by Drama225 (talkcontribs)

Numerous reliable sources have predicted that DA will debut at #1. --Ted87 23:50, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's even on the charts yet. It's still new, and I don't think the charts have been updated yet to include Doctor's Advocate. --Mrpencap 21:27, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another thing is that the chart now says he sold 800,000 while I am seeing elswhere he only sold 378,936 and don't you think this should be based on fact and not predictions because it might not even come true.

When adding sales and chart numbers you obviously have to have a cited source. If there is no source or the source is not credible your edit will be deleted. Doctor's Advocate is not number 1 on billboard, therefore sales of Doctor's Advocate and RIAA certification cannot be added to the Doctor's Advocate page. It is still not clear why Doctor's Advocate is not on the billboard website since The Blue Carpet Treatment - Snoop Dogg is in the new release section. No more editing of the page should occur for another week at least, so we can make the appropriate and correct changes instead of false information! --Hellenicwarrior 17:28, 22 November 2006

Someone else has change the chart again he did not sell 100,000,000 and he is still not number one, if I am mistaken about his sales please whoever change the chart post a link to show me where you got your info from

There are official articles from several sources listing the sales as 358,000. Do not edit it out after I add it, because it is not simply one source that points it out. I have added three sources out of the dozens available, one being from the official billboard website. --thefilmmaking

Sales are now correct with billboard releasing new chart and nielsen releasing sales! Finally!! Unfortunatly Game hasnt gone platinum in the first week :( Hellenicwarrior 04:03, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

358,000 in U.S sales you should put it in chart trajectory

does anyone know worldwide? 419k first week ccording to United World Charts

The Doctors Advocate debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts with 358,000 records sold in the U.S. It also sold 433,000 world wide. That is 358,000 in the U.S. and 75,000 outside the U.S. While 358,000 is considered ok sales in the U.S alone, 75,000 outside the U.S. is not good at all. In week 2, Game only sold 135,000 records, coming out to 493,000 records sold in the U.S. Also, he moved from #1 all the way to #13 that is the 4th worst drop in sales in Billbaord History. Game said he was going to sell 1,000,000 records in 1 week, and in two weeks has not even sold half that.

The official sales have been updated on the Billboard 200 site, someone should add it, but it will change in a week so it must be considered an active link. Also, someone please fix the links after the page in order to make them footnotes instead of consecutive links after the chart listing. [5] --thefilmmaking

Oh please, Jay-Z's new album sold 15,000 units outside the U.S. and I don't see anyone calling that bad. Plus, not to defend Game, but how many hip hip artists that released albums in the past few months have gone gold in three weeks? (This is assuming he sells about 3000 units next week) And 300k units is not considered ok, it is considered pretty damn good.

Coolintro 00:30, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What's happened to the sales numbers. Someone's DELETED it. How am I supposed to know when it's gone Platinum. I know it's been around for a while but loads of people would want to know. As i can't find it anywhere else i look for Wikipedia

For the past 4weeks his album sales have been listed as 904,000,are you really telling me he hasn't shifted any units since then?we need updated figures.

How the hell are we supposed to know the sales if the album is not in the Billboard 200 chart anymore? It obviously sold more, but without a source we can't update the sales, because we don't know what the sales are. If you know the album's sales, please update them, but don't come here and bitch about the sales. --- Realest4Life 20:47, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

did i bitch about sales?i just said we need updated figures, all i see is you whining so you must be the bitch. now keep your white mouth shut.comprende esse.

Actually, you did bitch, and no, I'm not the bitch, I always try to update sales for albums like Buck the World, Strength and Loyalty, and others, but this album is not charting anymore, so stop your whining. Also, your behaviour can lead to a block, especially when you tell other people to "shut their mouth". I won't report, but some people will, so I'm just saying you know, be careful. If you can find a source for the album sales, please update them, but the album is selling less than 5,000 copies a week, otherwise it would be in the top 200 albums. Peace. --- Realest4Life 18:39, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Neptunes (Bonus Track)[edit]

Please note that the Neptunes did not produce the track "I'm Chillin" it is produced by will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. I have the UK album and that is what's written in the credits. And the "I'm Chillin" chorus is actually sung by will.i.am as well. So whoever keeps changing it please stop.

New York Times Review[edit]

You cannot designate that the NY Times said that the album is perfect (thus warranting it 5 stars) simply because it (a single reviewer with a single opinion that doesn't represent the magazine itself) felt that it was the best album of the year. Since the NY Times has no scale and no rating system, a representation of what the magazine itselfs opts the album can be can only be weighted or summed up as such: Positive, Excellent, Fair, Unfavorable, Negative or something of the sort. Just a simple word that give the overall impression.

Just because a review with no scale says. It's the best or one of the best doesn't warrant a Five Star Rating if there is no measurable scale.

As far as reviews go, check out Hell Hath No Fury, Food & Liquor, and Kingdom Come (album). Notice the broader representation of how the album was recieved by critics? Not just the ones that said that it was the album of the year or the ones that said it belongs in the garbage. I'm not saying 30 Reviews from every 8-bit web-mag in town but 5 doesn't cut it.

Wuthai 02:57, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But it can also be said that the reviewer (not a user commenting) clearly stating in the article that: 'And yet, barring some last-minute surprise, he has made the best hip-hop album of the year.' is saying more than just a 'Positive' review. I don't know who was interpolating a user's comment, but the article speaks for itself, and to say otherwise is just being a hater.

- Shabad 8 December 06

We cannot infer what we may think the reviewer/magazine may be saying. We can't be like 'BEST FUCKING ALBUM EVER", just like we can't be like it's 5 stars (esp. when there's no scale). The guy gave it a positive reviewer, so we state positive. Nothing more. I (We) can't be like well even though he said it was the best album fo the year, he sounded sort of sarcastic, so I'll change it so the NY Times reads sarcastic. He gave it a positive review. The word positive serves it purpose.
Look, it's clear you are a fan of The Game (like me), but the album must be viewed objectively no matter how much we may like it. Granted it says its the best album of the year and it could very well be, but we can't quote a subjective line, just like we can't give it 5 stars, just like we can't alter the entire the article to say how dope the album is, just like we can't exclude album reviews because they don't feel the same way. One word that gives the Overall objective impression.
The Rolling Stones gave it a 3, so we delete it? Slant Magazine isn't the equivalent of the Source so delete it? The A.V. Club isn't Allhiphop so delete it? That would be the same as excluding all the reviews that gave it good scores and keeping the bad ones so we give the album the impression that it's shittier than Mr. Hankey.
That would be morally wrong and unprofessional because we know the album is good, but not every review felt that it was "Best Rap Album of the Year" just like not every review felt that the album was "A Silicone Disk that was pressed with Assmilk and Gay-Sex that should be used to torture Sadamm Hussein". Most of the reviews gave it a high/positive view so we keep those to keep that objective impression and maybe exclude a review that was overall hating. But we can't blow the album up to more than what it was.
I keep referencing the Hell Hath No Fury review because I want this page to mirror that pages quality. Notice the Critical Reception section. It's objective based on what's provided. It would be too easy to say "It's so fucking dope" and call it a day. Note where it says that it is receiving high reviews from mags like Rolling Stone, Slant, and Pitchfork. There's a broad view from outlets that aren't 100% concerned with rap and would better show the the quality of the album is because the rating is in stars and not mics and t-shirt sizes.
Objectivity and professionalism is what we want. Wuthai 00:58, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't read all that shit, but I'm not inferring nothin B. The reviewer said it, so the article should reference what it actually says. You actually been on the site? It's clearly said, but heh I ain't no fan, I just edit all hip hop articles I see that aren't done right. And I think you should say in the article a direct quote or exactly what the article says. A site saying, where ever, that he produced the best album of the year, is saying just that and there is obviously no sarcasm in it. The guy changed the title of the article recently because it probably was too stan-ish, but heh.. it's your choice man. You can do with it what you wish. It's gettin late, imma grab some tequila =). Peace Wu.

Incorrect Information[edit]

I’m reading the Doctor’s Advocate official album inlay booklet as we speak right now. And nowhere does it say that The Neptunes had anything to do with producing the “I’m Chillin’” bonus track. It says it’s produced by Will.i.am, so this article is incorrect. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nayf87 (talkcontribs) 19:44, 6 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Sales Chart[edit]

What happend To The Sales Chart Is Any one still keeping track of chart positions And Sales

Yes, please add back the sales chart.

For the "samples" section for the track 'Why You Hate the Game" the sample song should be changed to Make It With You, instead of just with you, by the Main Ingredient.. not a big deal, but still

The Source 4.5 Mics[edit]

It Should be Added That This ALBUM recived a 4.5 rating From The Souce ThisIs Really Importaint

And It Would Be Great If Someone could Also Add A picture Of It

It should be changed that This ALBUM has sold 1291075 or 1.3 million copies to date. http://www.clickitaliansoftware.net/hosted/vgcgroup/WorldwideAlbum/ that is the link that varifies this information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.174.200.62 (talk) 18:37, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

UK Bonus track "I'm Chillin"[edit]

Ok, let's settle this. Here's a photograph of my inlay from a UK CD. Notice it quite clearly says "Produced by: will.i.am" and "Additional vocals: Fergie and Will I Am (sic.) of The Black Eyed Peas"

Tone of article[edit]

The Game wanted to proove that he could sell as much as his debut album (The Documentary) without help of Dr. Dre or G-Unit. However, the album wasn't certified platinum by the RIAA, selling 900.000 copies in the U.S., while The Documentary was certified 2x Platinum. Worldwide The Game sold 5 million with his first album, and 2 million with his second. This might not be because of Dr. Dre, 50 Cent & G-Unit not contributing to the album, but also because 2006 was the worst year for hiphop. Many platinum-selling artists (Snoop Dogg, The Game, Nas, Obie Trice, Lloyd Banks, Busta Rhymes, Diddy) didn't go platinum in this year. The 2006 sales were 21% less than the 2005 sales.

Altough G-Unit isn't featured, there are many interesting guest appearances on this album. Including Snoop Dogg, Nas, Xzibit, The Black Eyed Peas, Nate Dogg, Busta Rhymes and more!

What is up with this tone? The current tone is biased and should be re-written. "The Game wanted to proove"? First of all its "prove" not "proove" Actually a better term would be: "The Game wanted to establish himself as rapper who didnt need big name producers (such as Dr. Dre or Neptunes) to help sell his album.

However, the album wasn't certified platinum by the RIAA, selling 900.000 copies in the U.S., while The Documentary was certified 2x Platinum. Worldwide The Game sold 5 million with his first album, and 2 million with his second.

First of all, the current tone makes it sound like The Game did these numbers in an single day. Secondly, where are you getting your numbers from? Cite! A better sentance would be: "While The Game still debuted atop the US Billboard 200 selling 840,000 (I forgot but I think it was something like that), he sold less than his debut album The Documentary (selling xxx,xxx the first week).

My version: There are a number of reasons speculated to The Game's Doctor's Advocate sells. Some believe it is due to his fallout with G-Unit, some believe it is due to the lack of Dr. Dre on the album, and other speculate more reasons. However, it should be noted that many platinum-selling artists (such as Snoop Dogg, Nas, Obie Trice, Lloyd Banks, Busta Rhymes, Diddy)did not go plantinum in 2006 due to overall loss of album sales. The 2006 sales were 21% less than the 2005 sales. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 130.182.26.136 (talk) 22:56, 7 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

and because several of them released their albums near the end of the year...Drumac 03:45, 17 May 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.43.180.196 (talkcontribs) [reply]

I think one of the major factors was Jay Z's album that came out the very next week, very bad marketing decision by the game.
