"This monologue... is widely considered an icon"

There's gotta be a better (more accurate way) of saying that. It's not coming to me on a moment's notice, but a "monologue" can't be an "icon". Lunch with Jason 04:27, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Series of books?

Wasn't there a series of books based around the character too?

Harry's "transfers"

I have amended the article to say that his transfers were often for political rather than, or in addition to, disciplinary reasons. Hope this is OK. For example in "Sudden Impact" he is put on gardening leave, until the unwelcome political attention on the Police Department had died down. In "The Enforcer" Harry gets a good result with the robbery but only by causing "the City" a considerable amount of expense in collateral damage. He keeps his badge and his rank but is transferred to Personnel. Rugxulo (talk) 22:49, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Requested move 17 February 2016

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move the character; there was a fair level of support and little opposition to this element. However, No move of the photographer; there is no agreement that he is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of the term.--Cúchullain t/c 18:24, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

– More commonly known as Dirty Harry, and that would leave the photographer as the only article with the title "Harry Callahan". Unreal7 (talk) 00:56, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

  • Oppose Even if you rename the character, that does not mean you can move the photographer. You haven't provided any appropriate reasoning for a primary topic change. -- 70.51.200.135 (talk) 04:41, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Neutral I can see the logic in moving the page for the fictional character, but I think the photographer page should be left as it is so it isn't confused by people who know Dirty's real name.--Leigh Burne (talk) 08:58, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Oppose pointless, and not encyclopedia style and "Harry Callahan is" not justified in books. And Strongly oppose the move of the photographer. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:13, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
If it was up to me your opposition would be ignored. Google Books seems your only ever evidence. Unreal7 (talk) 18:16, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
@Unreal7: Gbooks is important evidence of common usage in reliable sources. Thankfully, it 's not up to Unreal7 to decide to ignore the !vote of an experienced editor such as In ictu oculi. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:25, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

originally supposed to be a 4" M29, not 6"

Whoever's a fan might want to go through some John Milius interviews on Youtube and get the exact details to add to this article, but, IIRC, Milius originally intended Harry's Model 29 to be a 4" gun, not the 6" (or was it 6.5"?) they used in the movie. I forgot what caused the change. But it makes more sense for a plain clothes detective to carry a 4" for a concealed carry weapon. Milius also said only someone as tall as Clint could carry off concealed carrying a 6" and that the longer barrel looked better on the poster. Milius also said even still, Clint only carried the gun during filming right before he had to draw it. The rest of the time Clint was not packing. Phantom in ca (talk) 06:58, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
