The requested clarification for the claim of "double meaning" is that the lotus flower in the song represents human female sex organs. It could be argued that the ending of the poem becomes nonsensical if this "flower" is taken literally as the flower of a lotus plant; i.e. perhaps the double meaning cannot really be sustained all the way through, and therefore there might be a moment when an attentive listener will realize that the song cannot actually be about a flower. (It's not difficult to suspend disbelief while a flower is being anthropomorphized in a general way, but it becomes much more difficult when that flower's actions are oddly specific and un-flower-like.)
The claim that this double meaning was used because of "circumstances at the time" is less clear; poets and songwriters today still often choose to write indirectly about sex. TooManyFingers (talk) 08:53, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
