This article is an attempt to understand who Diana Caldwell was from published information. There is a surprising lack of secondary data on Diana prior to her marrying Jock Broughton, despite her visibility in Mayfair, in society and her association with artists and musicians of the time. Hopefully this stub will allow less accessible sources to accrete. Largely anecdotal is the influence of her father's controlling influence on her life. He moved his family from Mayfair in 1909 to Hove to take his wife from the attentions of other men, which she always resented (published). It isn't hard to imagine a young Diana soaking up her mother's stories of a dazzling life in London, which was "cruelly" taken from her. Neither is it hard to imagine Diana being determined not to repeat her mother's mistake allowing a man to control her in that way. Diana did all the controlling in her life, sometimes with seeming cold precision. These last suggestions are conjectural and inadmissible in Wikipedia - we only report the events and not the intents.

One relatively easy place to tie down would be MI6/MI5 - was Diana recruited by Hugh Dickinson? What was her relationship with the Austrian Chancellor? Where did she learn to fly and which clubs did she belong to (who was she flying with?). As always - work to be done. Geneus01 (talk) 16:13, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
