Early Cuts

The plot synopses in the Early Cuts section are an absolute mess. The spelling and grammar need serious work. I'll get to work on cleaning it up tonight, but I just thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.101.56.3 (talk) 18:58, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

I went through and fixed some of the spelling, grammar and capitalization errors. TomCat4680 (talk) 00:02, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Crew Section

The Crew section right after the Characters seems out of place, Its occupying a noteworthy position in the article as the third main heading. It seems unlikely to mention it in the first few sections, other series don't even mention the show runners/writers on their wikis, I suggest moving the section to the "list of Dexter characters" and adding Crew to its heading. Revealing The Season Finale

They could have watched the East Coast feed on the West Coast, its available nationwide via DirecTV and Dish Network. Also, sorry but Wikipedia contains spoilers. TomCat4680 (talk) 06:11, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Quinn leaving the show

What's this about Desmond Harrington (Quinn) leaving the show? (It says 2008-2009 in the main cast section). Where did people hear that? Anyone have a source?

  • I believe that's meant as a note that he was not a member of the cast prior to 2008, NOT (necessarily) that his tenure on the show will not continue past 2009. It should probably say 2008-present instead, the 2009 just looks misleading. No casting news for season 5 has been announced (that I have found). 72.150.0.93 (talk) 06:56, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Rita's KIller

I don't think the article should state that Rita is Trinity's final victim as we don't know yet that it was definitely him that killed her. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.233.63.107 (talk) 18:12, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

    • That interview is between the two actors giving their opinions on what they believe to have happened. None of the series writers have confirmed that it was trinity that killed her and it's a cliff hanger ending so your not supposed to know what happened or else they would lose the viewers for the next series premier.
    • There has been no confirmation from the shows producers that Julie benz is leaving the show (that I have seen) so this whole ending could just be another of Dexters Dreams just like in the episode where he saw Rita and the Kids leaving the police station. Is she dead?, was it Trinity, was it suicide, was it nexts seasons Killer? was it a dream, we just dont know yet.

A spoiler alert should be included as the final episode has not been shown yet in all countries. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.8.144.118 (talk) 23:00, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry but NO SPOILER ALERTS per WP:SPOILER. (Deftonesderrick (talk) 05:22, 17 December 2009 (UTC))

Despite what the writers, and producers have stated that Trinity is the killer, I think the greater point is that on the show itself, that was never made definitively clear that this was the case, nor was it ever shown. They can easily retcon it later, and have it turn out that the season 7 guest villian David Tennant actually killed Rita for some crazy ass reason.(75.69.241.91 (talk) 05:04, 24 December 2009 (UTC))

Quit kidding yourselves with stupid theories about Rita's killer. It was Trinity, an assertion that has been confirmed by writers and actors on the show (http://celebrifi.com/gossip/Dexter-interview-executive-producer-Clyde-Phillips-1259049.html). Think about it this way -- if Trinity was not the killer, the alternative is some stupid plot twist that would be uncharacteristic of Dexter's competent writing staff. Trinity had the last laugh this season, kiddos. Get over it, and good bye Rita. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.27.235.47 (talk) 06:44, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Again. On the show itself, it was never established who killed Rita. What a producer said later in the course of an interview makes no difference. What is it about that, that you can't comprehend? (75.69.241.91 (talk) 23:25, 4 January 2010 (UTC))

Condescension asside, if Rita's killer can be sourced, then put it in. Otherwise let's move on. - JeffJonez (talk) 00:30, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Heraldry in the title?

"The title itself is a reference to the heraldic concept that each coat of arms has a right and left (i.e. dexter and sinister). The dexter side is the positive side. Source: http://www.fotw.net/flags/heraldry.html Heraldic Concepts"

How do we know that the title of the show is not merely a reference to the protagonist's name? And, as it is, Dexter seems to me to be not that uncommon that it would need special clarification. And if I were to speculate on the deeper associations on "Dexter", I would rather mention that the right hand is associated with skill. Hence 'Dexterity'. So, how about some source not on heraldic concepts, but on the intention of the authors for this association. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.183.75.49 (talk) 12:06, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Compelling -- albeit original -- research - JeffJonez (talk) 21:45, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

This page needs a massive overhaul

Early Cuts, the long season synopses, differences from the novel... all sections that need to be greatly shortened or deleted altogether, they've ballooned out of control. Personally, I think the Early Cuts detailed descriptions needs to be summarized in about one paragraph. The season synopses should only be about 2 paragraphs each and the differences from the novel section should be deleted altogether. Citing the books as reference is not enough to show that it's not original research. Anyone else have any suggestions on how we could fix all this? (Deftonesderrick (talk) 20:59, 4 February 2010 (UTC))]

Okay, check this out. This section on the page for the book is a thousand times better than what's written in the "differences" section. I think it should look more like this if it's going to be included on this page. (Deftonesderrick (talk) 21:07, 4 February 2010 (UTC))

I agree that the synopses are crazily detailed, and need serious pruning. I'm not impressed with the Darkly Dreaming Dexter link you've shown, however. I can't think of a shortcut here, other than actually boiling down the paragraphs into sentences. - JeffJonez (talk) 21:24, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Well, my example was only for how we could go about trimming the "differences" section so that we can direct people to the books and make their own comparisons. Having the section the way it is now is OR and SHOULD be deleted, but I'm suggesting a way we can keep the section. Other than that, does anyone else want to try tackling the synopses sections and Early Cuts to start with? (Deftonesderrick (talk) 22:21, 4 February 2010 (UTC))

Okay, I've copied the entire page to my Sandbox to test out some new edits of the plot summaries. Anyone, please check them out and let me know what you think. I've gotten about 1000 words trimmed overall and I think it could be more. Any thoughts, leave them on my talk page, I've set up a topic there. (Deftonesderrick (talk) 20:10, 19 February 2010 (UTC))

I've taken my edits and applied them to the page as of today. I'm seriously stuck as to how to make the Plot summaries even shorter, season 4 is the toughest, that's why I'm posting the changes in the hopes that people will SUBTRACT, not add, to them. I've, thus far, reduced the total of all summaries from about 4000 words to 2800.

Here's a short list of what I've changed:

  • Greatly reduced word count of each summary. They all contained far too much detail and I believe they still do.
  • Moved Dexter's back story to a new section called "Series Introduction". This gets all the Harry's Code, having no feelings stuff out of the way, since the overall story arcs for each season get more complicated as the series progresses. I think this section is crucial to this page and needs to stay. That way, each summary can focus on the season's story arcs and not have to drum up all this stuff that's stated in the intro.

Thanks!(Deftonesderrick (talk) 20:28, 26 February 2010 (UTC))

So upon rereading since you were working on these sandbox style, I'm wondering if season 4 can't be shortened by getting less specific about how trinity killed each victim; this could be specified as needed like when he explains his sister's death to Dexter. I'd still want to mention that he kills each victim in his cycle in a different way; to me that was a critical plot point as to why the guy was so hard to catch (and I'd want to leave in the method for the first murder of each cycle, again plot point). But instead of (for example) the sentence about Dex seeing on security camera Trinity "bludgeoning a man to death", we could substitute with just "killing a man."
Likewise in the first paragraph: "Special Agent Frank Lundy returns to hunt down the "Trinity Killer" (John Lithgow) who he believes always murders three people very specific sequence: a young woman in a bathtub, an older mother of two falling to her death, and a father of two bludgeoned to death."
This could become something along the lines of: "Special Agent Frank Lundy returns to hunt down the "Trinity Killer" (John Lithgow) who kills three victims in a repeating cycle, using a different method for each, starting with the murder of a young woman who bleeds out in a bathtub. Yeah I know it still needs work.
This allows you to touch on the fact that Lundy has been after this guy with no backup for decades and bring in the repeating cycle angle sooner, which I think is more clear.
Also, I'd limit the elements surrounding Angel and Laguerta's relationship even more than you already have; their plot has no real bearing on the major events of the season. It won't cut much length but it won't hurt.Millahnna (mouse)talk 20:41, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Spoilers anyone

I was reading this page. I am only on season 3, so I skipped the sections about seasons 3 and 4 to avoid spoilers. When I went to the bottom to read about the books, it tells me that a major character dies in Season 4. That seriously pissed me off as a feel that Wikipedia pages should be spoiler free in non-obvious spots. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.107.145.189 (talk) 01:39, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

I agree absolutely. Even the season 1 description was a spoiler. I'll be editing this as I watch the show so its less revealing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.17.179.45 (talk) 22:11, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
This is an encyclopedia, not a fansite, it is meant to be all inclusive and complete. See WP:SPOILER, if you think a portion of info is inappropriate because of it's place on the page or irrelevant to that section then try reformulating it or moving it to the appropriate place. But do not remove information because you feel it's a spoiler. If you skipped to the section Differences from novels expect it to contain information from the series as well, including info that you might think spoils it. If you want to be kept spoiler free don't read section like "Differences from XX", "Plot", "Synopsis", "Controversy" etc. Instead go to one of the articles about one of the books instead, which should not include info about the series, unless of course in a section called "Differences from the TV series". Xeworlebi (tc) 22:32, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Page moved

I moved this page to Dexter (television series) because 'TV' reflects an informal register not appropriate for an encyclopedia. If anyone objects please discuss here before changing it back. --Aseld talk 09:50, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

no Disagree: Every disambiguated television series uses (TV series), this is done so per WP:TV-NC. If you which to see this changed you should obtain global consensus before starting to move individual pages. Page moves counter current accepted standards should be done with a {{Requested move}}, or in this case, since you seem to be against the entire TV part, be discussed on the guideline page. Xeworlebi (tc) 10:12, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure what it's worth, but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television this says 'TV' is accepted so I think the move is bad. TV, capitalized, is not informal. Mythic Dawn Agent (talk) 10:17, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Differences from novels

i suggest to remove the "original research" tag from the "Differences from novels" section. in my opinion it is irrelevant in this context. as far as i understand in such factual summaries, primary sources should be enough. in this case - the sources are the books and the tv series chapters. as a person who is familiar with both primary sources - the novels and the tv series, i can verify that the person who has written these parts did an excellent job. what is the others take on this ? Releasedate dvd season 3 in region 2

The article says the third season will be on dvd in region 2 on 17th of august 2010. I live in The Netherlands, and bought me a legal(!) copy (in dutch package) on the 17th of june this year... what's up with that? 77.167.187.196 (talk) 20:03, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

If it's something being released in August, the pacakging is probably not final yet, so your copy is either a bootleg or somebody was mistaken about the date. (24.62.126.170 (talk) 05:07, 23 June 2010 (UTC))

Dexter isnt a psychopath. He's a sociopath

Psychopaths don't know the difference between right and wrong. Sociopaths do but don't have a conscience so they don't care —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.148.248.45 (talk) 04:16, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

That's not exactly how the differences are described in the psych literature I've read, although I'll grant that that I'm not an actual psychologist or psychiatrist. Generally, the one thing that scholars seem to agree on (there DOES seem to be a great deal of debate on the differences) is that psychopaths are organized and calculating and can appear like your normal next door neighbor, while sociopaths tend to be less able to camouflage (some doctors describe this as being because of the lack of caring that you describe). Have we ever found a source with the intent of the series creator to go one way or the other on this? I'm kind of getting tired of the slow burn edit war. Merge with other Dexter article

There is already an article on Dexter that covers the TV series as well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dexter_Morgan Rui —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.54.46.154 (talk) 16:29, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

This article is devoted to the series, while Dexter Morgan is devoted to the character. Merging that information here would make this article much too long, and probably would merge better with List of Dexter characters if you wanted to propose a merge. BOVINEBOY2008 16:35, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Integrate the List_of_Dexter_episodes Please

Dear Editors; This List of Episodes was reverted- & orphaned when removed from this, the relevant article- b/c it allegedly has "nothing to do with Plot"! This rationale is POV- & I disagree inherently. Dexter is a story. Throughout literature thoughtful titles are chosen to illuminate plot materials! Do Dexter's titles refer to anything but the plot? I beg reconsideration.

A deeper issue is the use of "revert" to eliminate relevant material due to perceived conflict with form.
I like to think that when new material appearing in one's article upsets one's sense of propriety concerning sections, headers, etc., the truly Editorial thing to do is to offer suggestion[s] towards a better integration of said new material-- rather than simply reverting it, & thereby disappearing some useful information. For instance: if there was any wild hair then one might as easily retitle the relevant section to: "Episodes & Plot" as reduce the content. Or- If you are adamant about your concern, Editor- How about just creating a new section? Certainly we must insist that in any 'Encyclopedia' there's a point at which form must take a subordinate role to 'content' information.

And concerning that content-I suppose I could jump around the The Article's 5 plot pages of fan material to extract titles
But it would certainly make all sortsof sense for WP's Dexter article to link to WP's own Episode List. At present it doesn't. Isn't this what they mean by "WP:Orphan"?

WP is a group project, representing the stages of article consensus... more like a discussion, less like a tug-of-war. "Quick Reverts" are for repairing vandalism, not for individual satisfaction when puzzled by the behavior of an unfamiliar contributor.
So- Now I've made my suggestion addressing how the new information could be incorporated to address the previously stated objection- Even though I disagree with that objection. This is called "being nice". I did not "revert the revert", b/c the process of revert is less than thoughtful for what should be a consensus. Now I'll thank the person who reverted the List to replace or re-integrate the material- or give good reason why the material should not appear in the affected articles. Good Morning! Hilarleo Hey,L.E.O. 00:40, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

As I've said on my talk page, someone wanting to know what happens in the show will be nothing with just the episode titles.
List of Dexter episodes is anything but an orphan, and you seem to have missed this but on this article it is linked, as everywhere, in the infobox next to the number of episodes (No. of episodes    57 (List of episodes)), so no this is not what is called an orphan article, more than 50 articles link to List of Dexter episodes including this one.
By all means add an extra link in the prose, but the plot section is in my opinion just not the place for it since the episode list does not contain plot information, and the way it was done was in my opinion badly done.
For everyones information the edit I reverted was this one, which moved relevant links to the bottom of the "Series outset" section and added a link to the episode list in a most unusual way in it's place. As I already said on my talk page, someone looking for the plot might rather know that the plot is on the seasonal pages before they start reading the entire section. It was placed under the "Series outset" section, which is by itself about the show setup rather than the seasonal plots.
I have no problem with links to episode lists in the article, but in this case I find it misleading to say "go here for the plot" and end up on a page which simply does not contain any plot information.
What you call "quick reverts" are not just for vandalism, if it is used for vandalism the "vandalism" button will be used and the edit summary will say so. I was not "puzzled" by your edit, neither did I know you were an unfamiliar contributor, I simply found your change unhelpful and badly executed so I reverted it. Xeworlebi (talk) 01:38, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

GA Review

This review is transcluded from Talk:Dexter (TV series)/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Reviewer: Aranea Mortem (talk contribs count) 01:04, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Hello there, I'll be your reviewer today, inflight magazines are tucked into the seats in front of you and your mouse to click on things should be wherever you left it, please sit back, relax and enjoy the journey. Joking aside, this will be a massive review/flight, like taking a plane to New Zealand from the UK. The main reason that I haven't failed this is that, I too, desperately want this to become a good article. But (and that's a massive but (Sir Mix-a-Lot loves them), it's going to take a great amount of work. I hope you're ready for it). Escape doors are at the front and back of the plane, feel free to use them. I've made about 50+ edits to the article, so I'm pretty familiar with it.

Hello. Innocent bystander here. It would be cool if this article was made a GA, but as far as I can tell, User:Jj98 has never edited the article (and possibly never gotten an article through GA). If you want to take this article through GA, it would probably have to be as a nominator and not a reviewer. And, the article is short probably 50 well researched refs. On the other hand, please review as you like. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 03:39, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the comment, I've now completed my massive review and have found (as suspected) that it fails in essentially every category it needs to pass, but I've done it so that the article can have a pointer as to how it can be improved and I hope to god that he makes at least some changes of this list below! Hah. Aranea Mortem (talk to me) 04:24, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
The infobox
  • Get rid of some of the genres, there are 6 genres in there when there should be at most 3, generally just 2. We need some specificity. Also suspense, mystery and horror are WP:OVERLINKED.
  • Remove the "Narrated by", it isn't a documentary and while some people refer to his monologues as a narration, they aren't. He's just thinking things. Also Michael C. Hall is overlinked in it anyway, he's already got a link above.
  • The language is English, there are small parts of Spanish in it, but not enough to constitute a mention.
  • Sara Colleton needs a link.
The lede
  • What's there that needs fixing
    • Could the first sentence of the lede be written so that it isn't explaining the plot? Every TV series article I've seen starts with the typically formatted created by, first aired and that type of information not the characters, they should come later.
    • Why is the Miami Metro Police Department linked to Miami-Dade Police Department. I know the story, it's based on it, but it isn't actually it, so shouldn't have a link.
    • 2nd paragraph: the first episode, please link to Dexter (episode).
    • The 3rd paragraph needs some trimming, keep the premise short and simple and save it for later, there are more informative things to be talking about in the lede, remember that it needs to encompass the text below!
      • "that Dexter kills only morally wrong people" Rephrase. This article needs to be neutral, we can't be presumptuous, only kills murderers.
      • "interact convincingly" communicate. It's POV to say it is convincing.
      • "dissociative mental illness" Not confirmed which makes it WP:OR. In fact, reading further, rephrase this entire sentence, it's not very well written.
      • "As an adult, Dexter has largely escaped suspicion (with some exceptions) by being genial and generous and maintaining generally superficial relationships. However, his attachment to his foster (and ultimately adoptive) sister, Debra, his girlfriend (later wife), Rita, his stepchildren, Astor and Cody, and later his biological son, Harrison, have all complicated his double life and made him question his need to kill. In fact, in the first season, his relationship with Rita set in motion the slow but steady humanization of Dexter, progressing further with each season, as Dexter begins to experience a variety of emotions for the first time in decades." Remove all of it and turn it into one, maybe two, compact sentences. This is poorly written and is too detailed for the lede. We're trying to save space at the top here because we need to pack in more of other things.
    • In the first sentence of the 4th, rearrange the sentence to get rid of the bracketed (edited down to a TV-14 rating).
    • MOS for "Season 4" four, this occurs throughout the article.
    • "its season finale" Link to The Getaway (Dexter).
    • "record-breaking audience of 2.6 million viewers, making it the most-watched original series episode ever on Showtime" Reword and tone down a little.
    • Golden Globe link pls.
    • "This show is rated..." Remove that sentence or transpose it to a suitable place below.
  • What's not there that needs adding
    • A brief mention of the cast. Don't go overboard and provide links to characters.
    • The content below needs a Production/Development section, so once that's been added, transpose some of it to the lede.
    • Mention Early Cuts, mention perhaps two reviews and a few notable awards that it's won/been nominated for.
    • Links. That's one thing that's not there. Make sure that when you're adding this stuff above, you add plenty. Don't overlink.
Cast and crew
  • Cast
    • "Detective" Don't capitalize the "d" on these please, any later cases should also be removed.
    • "Detective Debra Morgan, and James Remar" Get rid of the and.
    • Harry Morgan, María LaGuerta, Angel Batista, Vince Masuka, James Doakes, Joey Quinn and Arthur Mitchell, Lumen Pierce all need links to articles which really shouldn't exist (except for Lumen, that article's pretty good).
    • Every 10 cases of season 1, 2, 3, 4 needs to be changed to one, two, three, four.
    • Dexter Morgan doesn't even get a mention. :(
    • Links are needed to the seasons.
    • "Sergeant Angel Juan Marcos Batista" Don't be ridiculous heh, Angel Batista.
    • "in seasons 1–4" rephrase, from season one to four.
    • Links should also be made to the characters that don't have articles but sections in List of Dexter characters, such as Astor and Cody, Frank Lundy, Miguel Prado, the Ice Truck Killer, Paul Bennett (mention his full name in this article), Tony Tucci, Camilla Figg (full name needed), Tom Matthews, Lila Tournay, Ellen Wolf, Anton Briggs, Christine Hill (name isn't even mentioned), Cira Manzon
    • David Ramsey needs a link (I created that article! Woohoo, #dispiritedly goes back to being serious#).
    • "Dexter's girlfriend turned wife" as Dexter's girlfriend and later wife, Rita... Also, please name her as Rita Bennett, that's what she's better known as.
    • "Erik King portrayed the troubled" Remove the troubled.
    • "Special FBI agent" Just FBI agent will do.
    • ADA needs to be turned into assistant district attorney.
    • Could we have a little consistency here? Mention the generaly main characters first, then the season-long roles, such as the Ice Truck Killer, Lila Tournay, Miguel Prado, Trinity Killer, Lumen Pierce... so on... and then mention a few minor characters that are notable enough to be mentioned.
    • FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy. He's already been mentioned, just shorten to Lundy.
    • Does Tony Tucci really need to be in here?
    • "was close friends" Remove close.
    • "a beautiful but unhinged" Remove "beautiful but".
    • Why is British linked? I presume people know who we are.
    • Malcolm-Jamal Warner does NOT need to be mentioned. The test: I hardly even remember his character, and I'm a massive fan. Same goes for John Marshall Jones. Additively, their characters don't even get a mention.
    • "Miguel's arch-nemesis" Wow, dramatic, remove it altogether. It isn't true.
    • "David Ramsey, who plays" played. He's gone now.
    • "returned in Season 4, romantically involved with Debra" That's not grammatically correct.
    • "hispanic" Capital.
    • "after the tragedy that culminated the previous season." Tell us what happened, Wikipedia doesn't care about spoilers and we're proud of it (I am anyway, who's with me!?)
    • Rephrase anything else you feel should or shouldn't be there and all that I've missed. You should probably mention less of the seasons and bring in a few characters that are missing.
    • All things such as Detective, Sergeant, Captain need to be lower cased.
    • Rename the section to Cast and characters
  • Crew
Plot
  • Series outset
    • Needs to be trimmed a little and copyedit is desperately needed. I've jotted down a few things below, but you should verify the rest for yourself.
    • Put everything in this into the past tense. It even happened in the past in-universe!
    • Doris Morgan needs a link to her list of chars entry.
    • "After discovering that young Dexter has been killing a multitude of neighborhood pets for several years, Harry tells Dexter that he believes the need to kill "got into" him at too young of an age, and that he believes Dexter's need to kill will only grow." Needs rewording.
    • Every case of The Code is capitalized, please don't. Remove all of them (there are quite a few and I even think that its usage should be cut down some).
    • "Most importantly, Dexter must..." Not for us to say that it is most important, it's one of them.
    • "Flashbacks throughout the series show" We're in-universe with this section, we should keep it that way, don't mention episodes, flashbacks or any such thing. Stick to the premise and don't deviate. Also the sentence with this in needs ce.
    • Dark Passenger is also capitalized, don't do so.
    • "Like many serial killers" remove that. We don't want to generalize serial killers, they are all different.
    • The third paragraph is alright tbh, but for the first sentence and "This suits Dexter" which needs rewording. Check if you can spot anything that is disjointed at all.
    • "He is fond of (and good with)" Remove.
    • It's looking quite bare, needs some more blue, anything that hasn't formerly been linked should be.
  • Early Cuts
    • For a start this doesn't belong in the Plot section, it isn't in-universe like plots should be and is out of place.
    • "Dexter: Early Cuts," Why is there a comma? It's the start of a sentence!
    • "web series," Remove comma. From here forth, check the grammar of this section (I think in general this article needs massive grammar improvs)
    • "Michael C. Hall reprises his role as the voice of Dexter." Reprised.
    • KTV Media International, is there a link for that?
    • Link Kyle Baker and Ty Templeton.
    • "for creating distinctive illustrations" What does that mean?
    • "The webisodes are animated with 2.5D style, where flat 2D illustrations are brought to life in 3D space." Needs a reference please.
    • Link 2.5D (visual perception).
    • "producer/writer" producer and writer please
    • Link Lauren Gussis.
    • "nominated for a Webby" Link Webby Award and write award otherwise it sounds informal.
    • Season 1 = season one
    • Name the three victims please. And then the season 2 victims also need naming.
    • This section (as always) needs expanding, more information should be available: here and here.
    • Add {{imdb|title|1595870|''Dexter: Early Cuts''}} to the external links section.
Title sequence
  • " i.e" such as is far better.
  • "the oranges he juices are blood oranges" Could you include that information somewhere else and not have it bracketed?
  • Digital Kitchen. Link it.
  • It's only 6 sentences; add more: here, here, here, here, plus whatever else you can find. Also incorporate more information from the ref that's already in the article: this one.
  • Please reference the Emmy award sentence, should be easy, just go to the Emmy site.
Development
  • Nothing wrong with this, except, oh wait, there isn't one!!!! Desperately needs production/development. Take Dexter (episode) for some references and information/content about its fruition (I added most of it there and I know that it traces it back all the way to the start of the show's roots). Get a casting section done (plenty of it in Dexter (episode)) and the promotion of the show, all of it needs in! Otherwise this just can't be some of the best of Wikipedia's content with it missing.
  • Once you've written it up (I might make a few notes about it once done), incorporate the Title sequence into this section.
  • Things you need to mention.
    • That it was adapted from the books and how it drifted away from them in series two.
    • Casting, the process by which the actor's were recruited.
    • Maybe you should put Dexter: Early Cuts section in here? That'd probably be best.
    • Nice paragraph on the filming of the show.
    • Rita's death should be mentioned, check The Getaway (Dexter), you should go to individual articles and retrieve the information from them, but don't just copy-paste, it needs to be separate from the episodes.
  • Ask me if you want any help.
Reception
  • Critical reception
    • Expand. Expand. Expand. This bit's easy, there are thousands of articles on individual reaction to episodes, take the major ones and put in referenced statements about critics' reactions to them, take the seasons and do the same. S1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 need Metacritic results with refs, this is where you can knock up the refs by about 20+ and give this a bit more reliability.
    • "The initial response to Dexter was positive" has been positive.
    • season 1 = season one
    • The Metacritic 2 and 3 are unreferenced, so, as above, fill them in.
    • "(quirky detective, hero with dense workmates, convenient plot contrivances)" If you're quoting, put quote marks, if that's not a quote remove it.
    • The second paragraph is all awards which has its own section below (which is entirely unreferenced, but I'll get to that). Remove it, replace it with the content in the awards and nominations section. The other stuff needs to be gotten rid of anyway.
    • Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. Link and needs a ref. All of that text, one reference. The awards are an easy way of getting another 20+ refs in the article, just go to the featured list that the Dexter articles has on it here and fish out some refs and info. Make sure you format the refs correctly.
    • The following need appropriate links: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series - Drama, Screen Actors Guild Award, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Golden Globe for Best Supporting Performance by an Actor in a Television Series.
    • "Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series - Drama" in a rather than In A.
  • Popular reception
    • Rename this to "Ratings" because that's what it is.
    • Expand out, check List of Dexter episodes and transpose some of the refs and information, should be able to get 2 5-line paragraphs, instead of one 4-liner.
    • This needs information on the first episode's performance in the ratings, the first season finale's and all other important episodes.
    • "by a slightly smaller number of people" By fewer people.
  • Awards and nominations
    • I'm not even going to go into this. Just look at it. What a mess. No references, poorly stuctured. Remove it and start over again, as I've said above, take content from the list of awards and add it here. A good 3 paragraphs can be had, but 2 will suffice.
  • Criticism
    • Rename this section to Controversies because it isn't its criticism at all.
    • "President" No capital.
    • "preempt" pre-empt. As a side note: That's the first fully well written section I've found in the article, I don't know why you nominated this, but I'll bare with it to the bitter end and really try to get this to GA, but I'll fail it if I have to.
    • Real-life murder 1: Is it really an ongoing murder charge? Or is it over now? Try to find recent news.
    • Horror-romance is linked and it shouldn't be.
    • "Crown prosecutors... are prosecuting him"... really? Never saw that coming. Reword.
    • "newsmagazine" news-magazine.
    • This is all in present tense when it happened a couple of years ago. Past tense please.
    • "Conley is now serving life imprisonment without the possibility of parole." ref that.
    • "On February 3, 2010 outside Oslo, Norway" needs to be : On February 3 2010, outside Oslo, Norway," Punctuation is essential.
    • "27 year old" 27-year-old
    • "television series Dexter" Dexter needs italics.
    • "tv series" TV series.
    • "21 year old" 21-year-old.
    • "her stepfather (49)" aged 49 would be better
    • In real life 5, Michael van Eck is repeated too much, just use his last name.
    • "the television series "Dexter"" Italics.
    • " facebook" Facebook.
    • Actually now, taking a closer look at real lives 3, 4, 5 and 6 I want you to remove all of them, they are not confirmed by reliable sources and are probably hoaxes.
Other media
  • DVD/Blu-ray releases
    • The second season media needs a reference.
    • Season 1 = season one.
  • Video game
    • This section is entirely without references when a good few are to be found.
    • 8.0/10 - 8 out of 10 is better. Word it out.
    • Michael C. Hall is overlinked.
  • Alternate reality game
    • This section has only got one reference, needs more to support the content.
    • "Dexter Game On" Needs italics.
    • "The characters and companies are controlled by real people, adding an extra realism and ability for intelligent conversation. Keeping with the realism most alternative reality games have, Showtime does not put their name or advertisements on most sites and pages created for the game...." What in hell is that? Unreferenced, dubious, remove it.
  • Soundtrack
    • This section is completely unreferenced. Why am I not surprised?
    • TV series - television series
    • Milan Records Give it a link.
    • season 1 = season one
    • " reminiscent of Bernard Herrmann's pivotal "black and white", strings-only score for Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film Psycho" Is that just completely WP:OR? Remove everything about Bernard Herrmann unless a ref can be found.
    • "Music Coordinator" music coordinator, no caps.
  • Merchandise
    • "EMCE Toys has planned the release" They have. Past tense please.
    • Reads quite a bit like trivia to me and needs a bit of expanding if you don't want it just to sound like a list of miscellaneous info.
More things
  • Ref 1 is dead.
  • Ref 7 is unreliable, user-submitted site.
  • Ref 9 is incorrectly formatted with Nov. instead of November.
  • Ref 31 is unreliable.
  • Ref 33 is unreliable.
  • Refs 37 thru' 47 all need removal as they are a site made by a person from home and are probably (read: definitely) inaccurate.
  • Ref 56 doesn't exist.
  • Why does this not have more images? Plenty are available, of actors, crew members and more.
  • Get rid of the slate.com external link.
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose): (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
Nope, grammar, MoS, layout, word choice are all awful. Readability is practically zero and just so many MoS fails all over the place.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): (citations to reliable sources): (OR):
Massive chunks of original research, unreferenced claims and others without reliable sources. Not up to scratch in that area.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): (focused):
Lacking any Development section at all, with loads of areas missing, such as awards, casting, and other with just meagre info.
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
It isn't really, but with my suggested changes, it would become a pass on this.
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
Quite a few malicious IP edits, but no outright edit wars.
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): (appropriate use with suitable captions):
Not enough images and the one image it has doesn't have a caption.
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
I am not impressed and have no idea why this was nominated. Do these edits and it's half way there. Maybe. I'm holding because I want some changes to be made of this massive list I've just spent hours compiling and don't want my work to go to waste. If you can do all of it, I'll be suitably impressed and give this GA status. Thanks for your time,

Dexter and "Dexter's Laboratory"

In my opinion, the names of these pages are not similar enough to be confused with eachother, and therefore there is no need to clarify the two at the top of the page. If "Dexter's Laboratory" were to simply be titled "Dexter", then it would be necessary to differentiate the two (i.e. "Dexter (TV series)" and "Dexter (Cartoon Network)"), but the "Laboratory" takes care of that. Trut-h-urts man (talk) 18:40, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Upon hearing about Dexter the first time, my first thought was of Dexter's laboratory, and I can guarantee that many people had the same association, since Dexter's laboratory came first. The small clarification is only helpful, since if anyone came to this page by mistake they should be aided to the correct one... we should not make it harder on the readers. Main articles

There really needs to be a franchise article for the Dexter template to link to as main, and a Novels article (say List of Dexter novels) for that line in the template, and for general navigability. As there are more than two novels in the series, a novel series article is needed. 65.92.182.149 (talk) 07:46, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Cast

Maybe also good to add in table of cast: Keith Carradine, as Special FBI Agent Frank Lundy, and Jimmy Smits, as ADA Miguel Prado, each appeared in season-long character arcs in Seasons 2 and 3, respectively. It is many people in one season only attending, and these are not necessary to add in the table of cast, but maybe these two shall be there?? Vuono (talk) 08:50, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Lundy reappears in later seasons too 94.168.179.213 (talk) 17:01, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Viewers

Is it anyone that have information about total viewers per season to add??!! Most series has this information, but Dexter is poor on information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vuono (talkcontribs) 07:00, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Accidental edit

Just wanna say that the edit I made in which I removed some DVD information, was completely accidental. I have no clue how I managed to remove that paragraph while I was making other edits. Don't know how I didn't catch that in the preview. Just wanted to clarify that there was no maliciousness or anything. Thank you. -Punkminkis (talk) 16:46, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Season 1-7 episode list

I added the links to the Wikipedia page of the season 1-7. (This is my first talk page entry. I think this is what I'm supposed to do.) ~~ iMatti ~~ (talk) 22:32, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Associated Crimes Section - Christopher Scott Wilson

Does anyone else think that the section on Christopher Scott Wilson needs to be rewritten? I appears to be a some quotes, though if they are they are taken out of context from their original articles and don't flow as logical thought. Is this just me? Gremlyn1 (talk) 06:26, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

Harry's role

Flashbacks throughout the series show Harry (who died several years previously) instructing Dexter on how to masquerade with typical human behavior, how to cover his tracks after a kill, and even how to stranglehold a target to knock them out and capture them.

My memory is porous, but I'm confident that it's a great exaggeration to say that flashbacks to lessons in technique occur "throughout the series". Flashbacks of any kind are less frequent than the conversations with Harry's ghost. Is it clear what Dexter thinks of these conversations? He knows they're not real; does he see them as manifestations of his madness, or is he merely imagining (in a format made convenient for the audience) what Harry might say?

Sometimes the ghost appears when others are present. I forget, do others hear what Dexter says to Harry? —Tamfang (talk) 04:17, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

I have just started watching the series, but it does not seem like Dexter considers himself at all mad (unless this appears later). Looks like he is just remembering conversations with his foster father and these "flashbacks" provide the viewer an explanation of his childhood.Cosainsé (talk) 03:29, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Sex?

The article says: "This suits Dexter, who believes getting intimate will reveal his darker side to Rita." I thought that Dexter is just not interested in sex? Then it's his lack of interest, not the fear of being exposed, that that makes Rita a suitable partner for him. Am I wrong?Cosainsé (talk) 03:36, 16 February 2013 (UTC) Oh, let me retract - in the Episode 8 Dexter says that every woman he sleeps with sees that he is "empty inside". Still seems not quite the same as revealing a darker side. Cosainsé (talk) 06:21, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Season 8 Cast

Has the entire cast for season 8 been confirmed? Otherwise the cast chart seems like pure speculation. Do we know that María LaGuerta will not appear in season 8? Given that the show historically has shown characters from the past, it's a definite possibility Maria will appear. Unless it's confirmed, season 8 should be removed from the chart. FearNotMan (talk) 23:14, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Include the colour keys in the cast table

I think the colour keys should be included in the cast table, like on other shows (CSI, House, NCIS, etc.), instead of having it under the table. Jonny2BeGood (talk) 09:53, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Done. Used grey small text (black stands out horribly). Bromley86 (talk) 11:04, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Series Outset description refers to characters without context

In several sections of the Series Outset section, characters are referred to without providing context. Examples include: "Special Agent Frank Lundy returns to hunt down the Trinity Killer and begins working with Debra to hunt down Trinity, leading to Debra cheating on Anton with Lundy..." and "Quinn becomes suspicious of Dexter's unemotional manner after Rita's..." and "After being suspended by LaGuerta, Quinn seeks the help of a disgraced fellow officer, to investigate Dexter." and "Dexter kills Fowler, but the crime is witnessed by Fowler's next victim Lumen Pierce"

Readers of this section who aren't familiar with all seasons of the program may ask: Who is Anton? Who is Quinn? Who is LaGuerta? Who is Fowler?

Obviously this section is intended to summarize 8 seasons of a television program, but it's a little too brief in sections when referring to characters without providing even a few words of context as to who they are. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.165.224.29 (talk) 04:00, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

This is what the List of Dexter characters article is for. We could link at least one mention of each name to its place in that article, does anyone think that would be an overkill? There are also a few standalone articles, such as Arthur Mitchell (character), María LaGuerta, Joey Quinn etc. Hearfourmewesique (talk) 04:00, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

So many unreferenced character articles

I redirected Jordan Chase's article because it lacked citations and looked like a fanwiki article. As for the others.

These check out as perfect:

These ones could use more citations:

And these only link to the movie database:

I'm not against nominating the bottom 7 for deletion, but I'd much prefer they be properly cited with multiple third party sources of character reviews. 1 Isn't enough.

I'm not at all against nominating Arthur Mitchell or Lumen Pierce for deletion immediately, for they appear in 1 season. Also, don't even bother bringing back Jordan Chase's article unless you're willing to re-write it with cited information only. It wasn't cited with Movie Database like the others were. Mrmoustache14 (talk) 20:32, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

I see someone took the liberty to add citations to some of the articles. Update:

These check out as perfect:

These ones could use more citations:

Still lack inadequate references:

Despite LaGuerta's article being the closest to properly refernced (other than Dex and Rita's of course) her citations only refer to Season's 1 and 2, yet her article's content reflect the first 7 seasons. So with all of the articles please make sure all information matches at least 1 of each citation listed. Mrmoustache14 (talk) 00:39, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

Association with crimes

The opinionated quote "Anyone who thinks the media has nothing to do with [increasing violence in society] is an idiot." goes uncontested. It is not only a great example of how NOT to use logic to make a point, but it's kind of one-sided to let this quote stand without going into the discussion about the influence of media on society. One thing i know, some pretty peaceful societies can have pretty violent TV shows. I'll delete the quote to make this section less opinion/discussion. PizzaMan (talk) 12:45, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
