Year[edit]

Someone needs to add the year that desk accessories first arrived.

1984, with the first Mac. It should be in there, but I don't see an immediate place. If nobody else adds it I'll look again in the morning. -- Steven Fisher 04:36, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

is it just me..[edit]

Just wondering why this article makes no mention of actual desk accessories? (IE: Pens, folder trays etc)--Matthew Fenton (TALK - CONTRIBS) 13:58, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

screenshot needed[edit]

It would be lovely to have a screenshot of this ancient app. Its UI was cribbed by a lot of different programs, and, IIRC, represents a decent (but flawed) early attempt to model enabling or disabling a big bag of different things at the same time. Uhm.. what this..? thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 18:00, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Font/DA Mover redirection?[edit]

I was redirected to the Desk Accessory entry when searching for Font/DA Mover... I think considering it was a crucial System utility for so many years, it should have its own entry. I can start a stub but I'm not sure how to make one that has a "/" character in the title and how to remove the redirection. Connectionfailure 03:47, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just edit the redirect page :-) - (), 05:43, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

authors[edit]

Article should mention which ones were written by Microsoft and which ones were written internally; it's an interesting footnote to Apple v. Microsoft. Tempshill (talk) 04:36, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Desk AccessoryDesk accessory – Case: the topic is clearly a generic, not a proper name. Dicklyon (talk) 06:48, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment "desk accessory" is pretty generic, since it can refer to a real desk, and not a computer desktop interface. Such as a newton's cradle executive toy, or a stapler... 70.24.248.23 (talk) 09:47, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So true. It's a good thing the article lead clarifies the topic: "A desk accessory is a small helper-type application." Dicklyon (talk) 15:34, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – suggest speedy close an uncontroversial. Dicklyon (talk) 23:31, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Are these not just widgets?[edit]

Should this be merged with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_widget#Desktop_widgets Pyrolistical (talk) 23:38, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
