Why was this lied so late retrieved?[edit]

Hans Roelofs e-mailed me last week:

(What I do not understand in this process: the work lies since decades - actually more than a half century - in the Landesmuseum of Austria - and nobody has looked exhaustively at it? Cornelis Van Zwol cites even the title as "Mond-Abend"... "Ännchen von Tharau" is a well-known East-Prussian folk song - but "Mond-Abend"? Were some people sleeping when looking at it?)

A possible answer, which I sent him:

Omdat, zoals ik op de Wikipedia pagina schrijf "The key (A major), the meter (3/4) and the first four notes are the same as that of Schubert's Der Mondabend", dachten ze dat het een transcriptie was van Schuberts lied en hebben ze het niet grondiger bekeken... (Because, as I write on the Wikipedia page: The key (A major), the meter (3/4) and the first four notes are the same as that of Schubert's Der Mondabend, people thought that it was a transcription of Schubert's lied and have not looked more thoroughly at it.)
