Inappropriate hatchet job on valid article[edit]

November 2, 2014 update: No objections 7 months on so I'm going to remove the warnings Qworty placed on this page and restore the information with a lot of updates. Dennis Rea has been very active, albums have been released, and the article should focus a bit more on his recent work without becomeing unnecessarily long. Caitlynmaire (talk) 01:15, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

March 13, 2014 update: Qworty has been blocked from WikiPedia. In the meanwhile he shredded this article (basically vandalism) once again, did not respond to my comments and simply did as he felt like doing. I will once again be undoing his edits and updating the article to include new press links and new information. Mr. Rea and his band Moraine have received a huge amount of independent press since 2008, including half a dozen album releases. Once again, I can increase the number of links and references since they just keep coming. There is no doubt that Mr. Rea meets notability standards [b]if[/b] you don't remove the press references and all of his recent works.

Below are my previous comments and work undoing what Qworty did. Again, this is a blocked user with a hugely negative rating. I will add new updates in the restoration and improvement of this article to the bottom of this page.

If you disagree with my edits or want to improve the page, please, by all means, open a dialogue. I have no intention of doing anything that does not meet WikiPedia standards and I welcome peer review. I do NOT welcome vandalism, which is what has happened here twice.

=[edit]

The mass changes made by Qworty dismissing Dennis Rea's book about his time in China and basically ripping this article to shreds ignored the following from WP:SPS

Self-published or questionable sources as sources on themselves Policy shortcuts: WP:ABOUTSELF WP:SELFPUB

Self-published and questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, usually in articles about themselves or their activities, without the requirement in the case of self-published sources that they be published experts in the field, so long as:

   the material is not unduly self-serving;
   it does not involve claims about third parties;
   it does not involve claims about events not directly related to the source;
   there is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity;
   the article is not based primarily on such sources.

This article met the above guideline clearly. Consequently I am undoing all of his edits.

The good news here is that a lot has been published about Rea since then due to the success of his group Moraine and their album "Manifest Density" released in 2009. Subsequent tours, both international and across the USA, the performance at NEARfest, and a great deal of press should satisfy any notability questions.

I am adding additional solid, verifiable third party references and do updates as I restore the information Qworty removed. Autobiographical notes from Rea's book are still being used as references but the additional references should make the information in the book more clearly verifiable.

After I complete restoring the information I will do a further review of press about Dennis Rea and add further references still. I ask for a week or so to get this article into a state that will be difficult to dispute. Caitlynmaire (talk) 02:49, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Earthstar Section -- Further References[edit]

I've been told that an excellent additional source about Earthstar in Germany is a 2008 biography of Klaus Schulze which includes details about his work with the band. I will obtain a copy in order to provide additional published, third party information for the Earthstar portion of the musical career section. Please do not delete anything from this portion as I will have these references only after the book is shipped to me. In the meanwhile I have added ample additional web references. Chengdu, China Section restoration/issues[edit]

The short section on Rea's time in China has been restored. This is the only section I see as controversial in that it depends heavily on Rea's own book which is an autobiography of that period. (What makes a book a "vanity" or less important than other books?) I have added additional web references from interviews Rea gave about that time which are about as close to third party as you can get. Rea is one of the few Westerners who remained in Chengdu throughout the unrest there and his first-hand account is unique. I will do additional research on this section in order to find additional sources for verification.

My point here is this: the period in China and in Taiwan greatly influences Rea's current works, including his three recent releases (2009-2010) for Moonjune Records. These records have sold well and resulted in national and international tours, which is another point in favor of his notability. If you read the interviews and the press around those albums they refer to Rea's time in China. Yes, they likely will provide more references as I read them in detail.

Right now I want to restore this article and I ask again that nobody take a hatchet to it. I can provide more references than you will ever want and more verification than you will ever need. Enter into a dialog with me rather than having one Wikipedian, no matter how well respected, chop an article to bits.Caitlynmaire (talk) 06:29, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Additional references have been added to this section so it is far less dependent on Dennis Rea's book. As expected, press around the last four releases on Moonjune Records (2009-2012) have included background information on that period. I'm not done yet by any means but I believe by this point there are enough external press/web sources to make this section unimpeachable. Caitlynmaire (talk) 17:37, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Taiwan, Identity Crisis and The Vagaries section shortened/edited[edit]

I've restored the section on Rea's years in Taiwan but in a shortened/edited form. Upon rereading this part I agree there was extraneous language or language that could have been interpreted as promotional. While that was not my intent when I wrote the original text I can see where there could be objections. The revised text is crisper and sticks to facts. In addition I did find a reference to the Identity Crisis tour of mainland China from China Today and other third party references for verification. As with the section on Rea's time in Chendu I do expect to find further third party references for verification Caitlynmaire (talk) 07:41, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Axolotl paragraph left out[edit]

I've decided to accept the deletion of the paragraph on Axolotl. Recordings by that band were never released and there is little third party verifiable information on them. Focusing on the projects which have been signed by labels and have had recordings released makes sense to me.Caitlynmaire (talk) 07:51, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Resumed work on page, new section for recent works added, more references[edit]

After a long absence I've resumed work on restoring/rewriting this page. I've added a new section for recent works. It's substantially different from what was on the page before due to the success of Moraine, the first CD release by Iron Kim Style and Dennis Rea's second solo album. The longest part, five paragraphs on Moraine, is in place now and is well referenced. I've also added a couple of additional independent references to the section on China and Taiwan and the paragraph on Eric Apoe and They. Caitlynmaire (talk) 08:14, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've now also added two paragraphs on Iron Kim Style with new references made possible by press/reviews of the debut album. Caitlynmaire (talk) 09:00, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Restored the information on the Ting Bu Dong and Chekov CD releases and related tours. I can probably dig up some additional links as well and will do so when I resume editing this page. Caitlynmaire (talk) 09:50, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Added information on Dennis Rea's second solo album and added more references throughout this section. Caitlynmaire (talk) 17:39, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is any of this jazz?[edit]

Is there anything here that could be mistaken for jazz?
