Where...

Where did the figures on Ethiopean Religion come from, I've seen several sources, including the CIA world factbook which show a higher percent of Muslims than Christians

I've seen those figures as well, but they are incorrect. I took them straight from the 1994 census (the most recent census); the 1984 census shows the same 61:33% ratio (approximately). There's a link right before the data (in superscript).

Yes i also think that muslim population is around 50% in Ethiopia, According to Library of congress, CIA world Fact book and various other sites and publications. And the 60% christian data is not reliable.

Those numbers all come from the CIA factbook. It's not that they're independently verified, but that they all are using the same false data. I don't know when the data came from, but at the latest it was formulated in 1997 (it hasn't changed since then). The data I'm using comes from both the 1984 and 1994 censuses. The data on the page is from the 1994 one, but the 1984 one (as I said above) has the same approximate 61:33% ratio, just with more Orthodox Christians and fewer Protestants (P'ent'ay or Tehadeso).

LOL, try to change the religion numbers and see what happens. Wikipedia's admin system has been corrupted by Zionists. It's disgraceful, but nobody takes Wikipedia seriously for things like religion and politics anymore. The "census" numbers come from some obscure pdf file in the outer reaches of the Internet. Let's see the census numbers and how they were conducted, otherwise, the CIA is correct. At least don't claim it to be the gospel truth, and post both numbers. Oh yeah, but wait, the religion here is Zionism where anything that shows Islam is growing is incorrect. It IS the gospel truth according to these idiots.

The full census is not online. That "obscure pdf file" is just one of many articles that cite census data. Once someone decides to pony up and buy the full census, we can have even more specific data (ethnic & linguistic data is almost completely online, but not religious and population aside from large regions and the country as a whole). — ዮም | (Yom) | TalkcontribsEthiopia 22:48, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

I've counted 3 articles which spell the name of the ethnic group as "Wolaita" & 3 spell it "Wolayta". Which one is most accurate? -- llywrch 03:46, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Population Discrepancy?

Can anyone account for the 9 million people discrepancy between the CIA and the CSA? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.208.125.81 (talk) 23:43, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Not really, since to the best of my knowledge the CIA has not published their methodology. However, the CSA's figure is based on an actual enumeration of the population of Ethiopia, with a minimum of estimation -- one woreda in the Afar Region had to be estimated. Further, the CIA's estimate eventually depends on the CSA's work (unless they have operatives out in the Ethiopian countryside counting people), so until we learn more how the CIA arrived at this figure, I'd go with the CSA's values. -- llywrch (talk) 16:37, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

How can the total fertility rate for Ethiopia be greater then all of the fertility rates for the regions?----W. Ascher

Language section outdated

The language section appears to have outdated information regarding the Ethiopian provinces, listing areas like Bale, Sidamo, Gojjam, etc. These are still areas, but they were superceded in 1995 by ethnicity-based provinces (Oromia, SNNPR, Amhara, etc.) I think updating the article the reflect this would be useful.
