I added two obituaries to the references, however some details are not covered by them, especially the war instances and the list of academic awards. I tend to prune there and leave what is sourced, but hesitate to do that as I edit the article today for the first time (see request on my talk). The tag was only added today and it was added by someone who prefers to remain anonymous, so hard to ask directly what he/she had in mind. I suggest that as a courtesy we wait maybe a week to see if he/she (or someone else helpful) wants to add some more source referencs (and/or let us know how many he/she would regard as enough?) and then, if no one else gets in first, remove it.
If the tag persuades people to add more references - well, for some purposes you can never have enough references, as long as you avoid the totally implausible and impossible to corroborate ones and - which seems to be harder for some folks - avoid online references that (1) disappear after two weeks or (2) hide behind a paywall. But other things being equal, more references = a good thing.
Looking at the edit history, there doesn't seem to be anyone recent who has "taken personal and exclusive ownership" of the David Willcocks entry, which for most purposes I would regard as a good thing! So I don't think you should hesitate to improve this one if your reticence is based only on the fact that you are doing so for the first time.
The references issue was raised at WP:ITNC where this article was nominated for RD listing on the Main Page. There were some paragraphs in the article without a single reference, so I went ahead and added the tag. I'm not too familiar with the subject of choir music, so I don't know which sources are considered "reliable", else I would have fixed the issue myself. If the article is suitably referenced (at least 1-2 references per paragraph), the tag can be removed and the article can be posted on the Main Page (It's not about how many references are there in the article. It's about whether or not all the information within the article can be verified by the references provided). I understood all this and replied above. There are older passages in the article with no reference and great detail, mainly war experience, which I suggested to prune, but don't dare to do it without more than one support from others. The references in the article - old ones and the recent obituaries - are all reliable, I can add that.
