Introduction second paragraph[edit]

I'd like to propose tightening up this paragraph. Here's the original:

"Wilks, originally from Lethbridge moved to Saskatchewan in 1978 and briefly worked in the potash mines. He joined the RCMP and served in British Columbia detachments from 1980 to 2000. After retiring from the police, Wilks and his wife purchased and operated Sparwood Bowl and Billiards. He was elected as a Councillor for the District of Sparwood in 2002 and then as the town's mayor in 2005. As mayor he was appointed as a Director to the Regional District of East Kootenay where he eventually became the chair of the Regional Board. After local Member of Parliament Jim Abbott announced his retirement, Wilks joined the race to replace Abbott as the Conservative Party nominee in the Kootenay—Columbia riding. Wilks would go on to win the nomination race and the general election."

Suggested edit: "Wilks, originally from Lethbridge, is a former RCMP officer and entrepreneur. He served as a councillor for the District of Sparwood and later won election as mayor. As mayor, he was appointed to the Regional District of East Kootenay and became the chair of the Regional Board. Wilks sought and won the nomination to replace local Member of Parliament Jim Abbott and was elected to Parliament in 2011."

All of the details are provided in the subsequent paragraphs.

Also, there's a sentence at the end of the 'federal politics' section that states that "David Wilks is a classic example of the "Conservative Trained Seal MP." This is POV and the associated CBC link refers to an article about Brent Rathgeber. It doesn't mention Wilks at all. And I assume "he has since not been available to his constituents and has not answered a single question in a public forum" refers to the incident around the 2012 budget and that this has changed since then. "Wilks, originally from Lethbridge, is a former RCMP officer and entrepreneur. Between 1980 and 2000 he was assigned to several RCMP detachments in British Columbia. He was elected as a councillor for the District of Sparwood in 2002 and then as mayor in 2005. As mayor, he was appointed to the Regional District of East Kootenay and became the chair of the Regional Board. Wilks sought and won the Conservative Party nomination to replace retiring Member of Parliament Jim Abbott and was elected to Parliament in 2011."

-my additions to your suggested edit place him in BC, provide a timeframe, note his first election (councillor), and notes it was the Conservative Party nomination (then general election).

May 2012 Budget comments[edit]

Here's a proposed change to the paragraph about Wilks' comments on the 2012 budget:

Wilks' comments about the 2012 Canadian federal budget made national headlines in May 2012. Speaking at a meeting with constituents in Revelstoke, Wilks stated his belief that the omnibus budget bill should be split into a series of smaller bills, but that as a backbench MP, he had little alternative but to vote in favour because “that's how Ottawa works.” Answering questions from the audience, he indicated that he and other backbenchers had little influence or input on the budget legislation. Two videos of Wilks' comments were posted online, with his permission. Shortly after the story broke, Wilks released a statement to the effect that he was in full support of the budget bill.
