Reception[edit]

I've been trying to improve the Reception section and to make more use of the existing review from Variety because it seems like there aren't going to be (m)any other reviews. (Maybe this documentary will eventually get a wide release, maybe then there will be more reviews.) I've no problem saying my attempts have their flaws and I encourage other editors to rewrite, as Wikipedia editors often do. Maybe if I explain a bit more it would help. There were a few things I was trying to achieve, for starters it didn't seem helpful to repeat the names of the directors in the Reception section since the reviewer was not commenting on them in particular. The review mentions The Closer several times, even saying that he could not write about the film without mentioning it, so I thought it was important to mention The Closer in some way (but if other parts of this article mentioned the closer in some other way maybe it would seem less necessary to mention it again in the Reception section). If we had more reviews I would not even mention that Chappelle's people asked critics not to review the film, but since we do mention it, it seems appropriate to say something about why Variety went ahead and reviewed it anyway, but that was incidental and mentioning the Closer was probably the more important thing I was trying to do.

I used Google Canada to see if maybe I could find some reviews of the limited theatrical run but instead I found an article from USA Today which reviews the tour and indirectly reviews the documentary and that might be worth considering as a source. Perhaps other sources about the tour might be useful too.

The article is a good start but it feels like more is missing, I'm just trying to expand it. If other editors can think of better ways to expand and improve the article I encourage them to do so.

Although The Closer has an effect on it's release - it has no bearing on film criticism of the actual film outside of the author mentioning it. It's really irrelevant. CaffeinAddict (talk) 04:27, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The reviewer said "it’s impossible to write about a new Chappelle movie without addressing it" and I agree with him, context matters, and that his review praising this film is despite his negative view of The Closer. -- 109.76.201.241 (talk) 07:48, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
