The result of the move request was: Not moved Mike Cline (talk) 17:46, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Daedelus (musician)Daedelus – This is the only article that can be properly called "Daedelus", so this should be moved per WP:PRECISION. The hatnote should be sufficient for people misspelling "Daedalus" (although Daedalus (disambiguation) could be added). I found no misspellings among the first links at Google, and I only fixed one misspelling among what links here. TimBentley (talk) 00:50, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support the proposed move. A hatnote can take care of the possibility of misspellings. bd2412 T 03:18, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – on what basis do you claim an obscure music producer is more primary than the original Greek character or all the other meanings? Dicklyon (talk) 05:43, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • On the basis that the Greek character is spelled differently. Powers T 13:55, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Exactly. Nobody's saying it's "more primary", since it's spelled different. Whether or not people will mistakenly mispell it is a seperate issue I think.Shnakepup (talk) 15:19, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose; far too common a misspelling. Powers T 13:55, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support the move. Name is legitimately spelled differently. As BD2412 pointed out, a hatnote will take care of anyone accidently arriving at the page via a mispelling. Shnakepup (talk) 15:19, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, per WP:PRECISION. Daedalus may look similar, but if you type it in as a search term the article on mythical inventor is the top result, and that will remain true after this move. Kauffner (talk) 16:30, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, with alternative. "Daedelus" as a misspelling for "Daedalus" is more common than for Daedelus the musician at issue. As Kauffner notes, web searches for "Daedelus" prioritize the ancient Greek fellow - so should we. Currently, "Daedelus" redirects to Daedalus (disambiguation). I would redirect "Daedelus" to Daedalus, and add a hatnote to Daedelus (musician) there, since most people typing "Daedelus" are likely looking for the Greek person. Dohn joe (talk) 17:57, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • I didn't find any references to the Greek inventor in the first 11 pages at Google, other than one that actually referred to both him and the musician. TimBentley (talk) 22:52, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Stats from [1] for January: 1079 views for Daedelus, 3993 views for Daedelus (musician). However, it's impossible to guess how many people typing in/clicking Daedelus were looking for the musician. Before July 26, 2011, Daedelus was a redirect to the musician, so comparing stats before and after that could be interesting:
    • Oct 2011:1059 for Daedelus, 3955 for Daedelus (musician) (3.73 ratio)
    • Sept 2011:1062 for Daedelus, 3588 for Daedelus (musician) (3.38 ratio)
    • Aug 2011:1203 for Daedelus, 4440 for Daedelus (musician) (3.69 ratio)
    • July 2011:1522 for Daedelus, 3496 for Daedelus (musician) (2.30 ratio)
    • June 2011:1498 for Daedelus, 3431 for Daedelus (musician) (2.29 ratio)
    • May 2011:1732 for Daedelus, 4636 for Daedelus (musician) (2.68 ratio)
    • Apr 2011:2310 for Daedelus, 6131 for Daedelus (musician) (2.65 ratio)
  • When Daedelus redirected to the musician, people going through the redirect count only for Daedelus, not Daedelus (musician). If that roughly 2.5 ratio was in effect in Aug-Oct if the redirect was as before, there would be 3007.5, 2655, and 2647.5 views for the musician page respectively. That tells me people knew the redirect had changed, so went directly to Daedelus (musician), so maybe analyzing the stats is not helpful. TimBentley (talk) 23:56, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose clearly "Daedelus" should redirect to Daedalus. 70.24.251.71 (talk) 04:55, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: page moved. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:34, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Daedelus (musician)Daedelus – Ambigous, there is no other item named Daedelus (though a lot of things titled Daedalus) on Wikipedia, but for some reason the only topic is disambiguated while the abigous term redirects to a disambiguation page of another spelling. Hatnote at Daedelus (musician) would fit better. Lordtobi () 09:53, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 13:59, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Lordtobi: Or move Daedalus (disambiguation) to Daedalus. A routinely ephemeral pop music musician is not a valid longterm dominant meaning of the name Daedalus, which has been around since Ancient Greek times. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 13:59, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Anthony Appleyard: Please note that this page and my request are about "Daedelus", and we have no other "Daedelus" on Wikipedia. You seem to confuse this with "Daedalus", which we have a lot of. Also "Daedelus" is not part of Greek mythology (not included in the "Daedalus" article either), so your claim is false. Lordtobi () 14:24, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Lordtobi: Thanks.Sorry. I have made the move. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:34, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Revert[edit]

This wasn't a good move and it appears to have missed the 2012 consensus above, which explains that "Daedelus" (with the "e") is a common alternative spelling for "Daedalus" (with the "a"), the far more more popular target for the spelling. This is easily confirmed in a Google Books search. That is why the musician was titled at Daedelus (musician) even though the undisambiguated name was a redirect: The primary topic for the undisambiguated name is the mythological figure, not the musician. (The musician is also ostensibly named after the mythological figure.) And at the very least, the RM should have had a full listing, where others would have undoubtedly made the same points as the 2012 consensus... @Anthony Appleyard czar 18:01, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If Tobi doesn't contest, then the RM is a moot point and the revert would be fine. And if otherwise, no need to move it again before another RM czar 21:12, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The logic behind the revert request seems accurate to me; I hadn't seen the original discussion since I proposed via technical request, so if it is considered to better fit this way, I'm fine with that. Lordtobi () 15:25, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Anthony Appleyard, revert sounds good czar 09:15, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
 Done (not watching, please {{ping}}) czar 15:48, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Creation of separate discography article[edit]

Daedelus' releases are very numbered, and the main article is essentially a discography page. I propose moving the complete list of works to Daedelus discography and only keeping their studio albums and major releases on the main article. OptikalCrow (talk) 16:20, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • A note on the discography: Righteous Fists of Harmony was released before 2010; I want to say early 2006, but I am having trouble finding verification. [Anon 2/12/2023] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.97.126.5 (talk) 06:55, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

They now live in Boston[edit]

Daedelus recently moved to Boston as they are now a full time faculty member of Berklee's EPD department. They also mentioned his move in his interview with the Small Operations Podcast. https://www.berklee.edu/news/berklee-now/acclaimed-producer-and-musician-daedelus-joins-berklee%E2%80%99s-electronic-production-and
