Cynicism

This seems a very cynical article presuming unquestioningly that conspicuous consumption is indeed carried out for the reasons Veblen accuses rather than a recognition of quality that just can be interpreted, but which it is not guaranteed, as being status display. I think the article is not trying to imply that all consumption of luxury or expensive goods is conspicuous consumption, and that to be called conspicuous consumption, the consumption must be intended to enhance social prestige or be a display of status. (Otherwise, it would be simply referred to as "consumption".) Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 01:39, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
