Implausible Claim.[edit]

This article starts with the claim that "Commemoration of Charles Darwin began while he was still on the Beagle survey voyage". How can this be true? He embarked the Beagle shortly after leaving university, at which time he would have had no public presence, and the publication of his account of the voyage, which established his reputation, did not occur until three years after the voyage had concluded.Redcliffe maven (talk) 19:19, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, I've tried to clarify this point in the lead. For an example during the voyage, see Darwin Sound: it was quite common for captains to name features after their shipmates, in this case following CD's action in saving the ships boats. No mention is made of commemoration of the "two or three of the men" who also took the same action. . dave souza, talk 19:59, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
