It's misleading to say this was where New York City's first city hall was. It was the location of the Dutch New Amsterdam's first city hall from 1653. The building itself was a waterside tavern dating from 1641, and was the center of the local Dutch government (it was the jail, debtor's prison, courthouse, public stockade). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.64.99.5 (talk) 18:12, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
