Battle of Beandun[edit]

This section is so replete with assertions, it should be removed in its entirety. Beandun could be Bindon near Axemouth, but equally well (and perhaps more reasonably for the date) it could be Bindon Hill Fort at Lulworth (perhaps the largest hill fort in England according to Peter Berresford-Ellis in A Guide to Celtic Remains in Britain - ISBN 0-09-471110-0).

The article implies that the AS Chronicles says Dumnonia was involved. It says no such thing and it's inappropriate for Wikipedia to make such a claim. The AS Chronicle actually says "A.D. 614 . This year Cynegils and Cwichelm fought at Beandun, and slew two thousand and forty-six of the Welsh."

For all we know Beandun could be Bampton in Oxfordshire or even Banbury, since both are on the border of West Saxon expansion at the time, both would fit the place name evidence and both would fit the ongoing struggle with the Britons of the Chilterns. I wouldn't like to push either of these ideas too hard either - we simply don't know.

The article is about Clemen, so we should drop the Beandun section in lieu of actual evidence. All best to everyone involved. VeryLargeCommercialTransport (talk) 20:16, 31 August 2013 (UTC)VeryLargeCommercialTransport[reply]
