Full name?[edit]

Did he also go by Charles? I'm reading an article about a Charles Gadsden who designed the Gadsden flag, and I'm wondering if the author's sources are completely wrong or if the same person went by two names. Help? Aristophanes68 (talk) 06:24, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know who Charles is but the Gadsden flag was designed by Christopher Dadsden.

Prisoner of War[edit]

In the article under prisoner of war it states that he was released from what the British called Ft. St. Marks and sent on a merchant ship back up to the U.S. territory. This is not quite what happened. My great, great, great, great, great grandfather Don Francisco Xavier Sanchez rescued him and other patriots from the fort in St. Augustine and smuggled them back to South Carolina on his ship and yes he was a merchant and so it was a merchant ship. He did this at great risk as doing so could have gotten him hanged. He has just recently been recognized by the Daughters of the American revolution for doing this. Unfortunately I am only able to offer original research so I am not able to cite any books or internet sources that Wikipedia might consider appropriate. Anyone could verify this by looking up D.A.R. patriots from British East Florida. Gadsens letters to Franklin discussing his reason for using the rattlesnake instead of the eagle .[edit]

Does anyone actually know the true meaning and reason why Christopher Gadsen choose the rattle snake ? Its discussed in his letters to Franklin and he published them in his newspaper under one of his guisses . MJH941 (talk) 01:44, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ambivalence towards Slavery?[edit]

The article says "he showed ambivalence towards slavery" then goes on to say he owned and traded slaves. That's not "showing ambivalence" - it shows he was pro-slavery. Disputing unsourced Founding Father claim[edit]

@User:Randy Kryn: Christopher Gadsden is considered a Founding Father by whom? Since you didn't add a citation, we have no way of telling. So please apply one so we can determine whether Gadsden is considered a founder by reliable sources. Gadsden's page is one 50 or so where you added this title without providing a citation.
