His name[edit]

In the west, and in his native Taiwan, his name is rendered "Chun-Hsun Chou" or similar. I believe the spelling "Jun-Xun Zhou" is preferred in mainland China. My best information on this is from a Japanese correspondent:

  • "Chun-Hsun Chou" is Taiwan rendering and "Jun-Xun Zhou" is Chinese one.
  • Then, the question is why "Jun-Xun Zhou" is used in the web site http://go.nutn.edu.tw/2009/English/result_eng.htm. It's possibly due to current goverment, which is friendly with China. It was reported that they agreed to unify those renderings to Chinese way last March. This kind of things, however, will take quite long time to complete and may change in future.
  • A member of CGF (Computer Go Forum Japan) suggested me to use the randering in his passport, "CHOU Chunhson" (family name first). He knows that because he is a staff of Fujitsu Cup.
  • Finally, all what I can do now is to propose three candidates:
    • (1) Chun-Hsun Chou,
    • (2) Jun-Xun Zhou, or
    • (3) CHOU Chunhson.
  • I believe (1) is better but not enough to prefer.

I think there is a case for renaming this article to "Chou Chun-Hsun". Maproom (talk) 09:12, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
