This order is not listed under Phaeophyta at www.algaebase.org . Nor have I found these genera. Mistake? Different or outdated taxonomic system? The reference in the article is from 1962.EAS 23:04, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Since this article lists a bunch of genera that appear to be valid, this article must be referring to a family, not to an order. The correct family name according to algaebase would seem to be Chordariaceae , which belongs to the order Ectocarpales, but has a lot more genera than are listed here.EAS 23:19, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's different taxonomic systems, and AlgaeBase does not give justification for its particular choice, and sometimes it uses contradictory systems. You have to read the underlying literature. This change, from Chordariales being an order to being a family in the Ectocarpales is covered in the recent literature, but I don't know how well supported it is.
