Voice?

I am hoping this isn't a pointless comment.

First off, I love Linkin Park and listen to it all the time. I was screaming along with Chester one day and I wondered, what sort of stuff does he do to keep his voice sounding good? Of course, he doesn't do it all the time, but for concerts and also the albums, he has to scream a lot. If I screamed that much, my vocal cords would refuse to let me speak normally, much less sing like he does. So, does anyone know if he uses some sort of tea or something? Meditation?

  • I've been a fan for years and I've never heard of any special remedy he uses. I think he's just gifted in that regard. He was sick at the concert I went to (laryngitis, if I spelled that right) but he sounded amazing anyway. So I think his vocal cords are just stronger or something. [[User:Premeditated Chaos|User:Premeditated Chaos/Sig]] 06:40, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)
  • I'm studying classical singing (clean voice) and I've learned that singing does actually 'strengthen' your vocal cords, allowing them to take more punishment in the form of screaming etc. If he actually did train his voice since he was a kid, his cords are probably stronger just because he's been doing it so long.

I think this is indeed another pointless comment. There are forums on their official site, you know.

I know someone will think that this is completely pointless but I'm sure someone wants to know so it's not as pointless as they think. Now Chester says in the DVD Frat Party at the Pankake Festival that he probably does everything that you shouldn't do. So I guess that if you want to have a voice like him do everything that you shouldn't do.(This here is pointless, I'm sorry) All I know is that I have been singing for a long time and screaming a lot too and I dont have a problem either so I guess that he just got used to it.

4 those of u that seriously don't know. Chester from a very young age, practised every single day, sing/screaming at the top of his lungs, until his throat was soar, to get the voice he has 2day.

It's still the most amazing voice I've ever heard! I screamed along and I lost my voice, but I still do it anyway because LP lifts my sprits and lets me fly. But, now that I've been screaming more, I don't loose my voice. So, yeah, he must be used to it!

Last time I hit this page a few years ago there was a blurb in it about how he intentionally damaged his vocal cords in order to obtain his distinctive growl. Looks like somewhere along the line that information was removed. Coradon (talk) 03:42, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Is it true that Chester had to take a break from touring and recording a few years ago due to suspected throa cancer? A lot of people claim this is true, but I can't find any solid and reliable sources? Thanks. The Neverdoll 09:41, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Sexuality

Chester is a Heterosexual Please stop any debate on this! Chester is also married. (thought it was important to add!) ---

-actually chester even said himself that he is not 'straight', and he is not 'gay' he is 'just chester'.

The interview said "I can't actually classify my sexuality because I check out males and females. I can be aroused by either sex or what not, so I don't see myself as a heterosexual man or a homosexual man. I'm just Chester!" ~ZytheTalk to me! 01:13, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Which means he is officially bisexual, many bands and artists do this as it helps gain a fan base from all types of people.

on his myspace (before he closed it) under Orientation: he put Straight

ahh! however, in a recent MTV 2007 interview, the band were asked about fan sites and what not, Mike Shinoda aggreed with the presenter that he has MySpace ( i happened to run into Julien K's MySpace aswell <a fellow new comer rocker artist who done some recent work with chester>). then chester was asked if he had any online prfiles, he said "i don't, no...i'm not really into that, but if its claims to be me; its not me, becuase i don't have anything like that man!..its an imposter, someone pretending to be me" 16:59 pm. Sunday. Chazfan

just adding this in, in an interview with Phoenix on Linkin Park Association it has been said that Chester isn't fond with computers Quote: Derek: Yeah I heard he (chester) has an internet phobia! Phoenix: He's not..see that's common misconception. He doesn't have an internet phobia, he has a computer phobia! But yeah he's getting better about it, he's about 8 years behind on the computer scale but he's catching up! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.210.210.132 (talk) 09:24, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

While all of this may be true or untrue if chester is bisexual I think it'd be because of his past as a child. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.149.190.44 (talk) 14:58, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Edited

I have edited this article, basically taking out all the repeated things and the chit chat and unfortunatly this is what you are left with. (Manderf 16:49, 16 August 2006 (UTC))

Sexual abuse

chester bennington was sexually abused as a boy, sources have been found, i will not mention where though. apparently it was for a good few years in his childhood. although not by family members, but by people that were thought to of been close family freinds, where fingered pointed at as the guilty attackers, although, chester did say himself he lost his virginity when he was fifteen. this maybe true but it still doesn't exclaim the child molestering he endured also in his own words he opened up to the truth that he was sexually abused as a boy. surely that is proof on it's own.

Actually, he just mentioned his sexual abuse (albeit briefly) on LoveLine the other night. Here's the official link to the Downloadable Mp3 for proof:

Now the fans have known about it for a long time, but if you need the proof, there it is. Jay 01:41, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Actually, he has stated that he wasn't sexually abused by adults. He stated that it was a boy about 3 years older than him. He stated this in article in Kerrang! magazine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.237.164.73 (talk) 17:28, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Early Life

This section appears to have been edited and written in a fashion that suggests a fan wrote it as opposed to someone writing the facts. Either way, the repetitiveness of the word "Chester" might distract readers. Anyone want to fix that?--72.226.224.251 17:27, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Image Problems

All the images on this page were supposedly licensed under a {{attribution}} claim. Apparently, the uploader failed to provide proof that Pushmeaway.com actually released the images, or proof that the website even had official permission to release the images. Although the website was dead, I looked it up on the Internet Archive, and noticed that some LP fans likely operated the site. In that case, it’s unlikely LP would allow the site’s web masters to use the images, barring some persuasive legal jargon. --ShadowJester07 07:37, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

The producer of the website claimed fair use for the photos, so it wouldn't be likely that the owner took the image herself.[1] --Kzrulzuall 04:18, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

and does noone have a image of Bennington?, there are thousands of people contributing, so there must be someone.... --Kzrulzuall 10:16, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Chester's Tatoos

Hi. I strongly believe that the section that talks about Chester's tatoos should be shorten and put under "Trivia" instead. Wouldn't talking about a guy's tatoo here at Wikipedia be unprofessional and unencyclopedic? - Omar 180 18:13, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Keep in mind that Trivial and unencyclopedic information does not belong on Wikipedia. NO GA and FA articles have trivia sections. Also, take not the section is poorly sourced - the only sources you find on the internet were copied from Wikipedia. --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  19:37, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
I agree the section is unencyclopedic and akin to something from a fansite. I deleted it and added a small blurb in the trivia section. --Foot Dragoon 06:45, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

i feel very strong that the section on description of Chester's tattoo's should remain where it is. On the grounds of body art being a massive major issue and topic chester is fanatical about. not only that but chester's tattoos are a major part of who he is and what is personal to him. this proves that this tattoo section is a very important issue therefore should be regonised as so chazfan

If that's the case, simply state that the tattoos mean a lot to him in the article. There's no need to make an entire section documenting every single tattoo on his body because that's definitely not something that belongs in an encyclopedia. It's more like something you'd read on some fanatical fansite. --Foot Dragoon 10:00, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Instead of working on the tattoo section, it would probably be a good idea to re-write his biography using citations and references :-p. --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  19:32, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

who are you too say whether theres a point to adding the tattoo section or not?? i feel it is very valid. it doesn't take up much room. and its nice knowlegde as a fan too have.

The article already states Bennington is a tattoo enthusiast and has worked with Cub Tattoo in the past. A list, even one with proper citations, would be border line fancruft, since there is no real substance to it. Please read some of Wikipedia's policies pertaining to this issue: WP:Trivia, WP:Attribution, and WP:Fancruft --ShadowJester07Talk 05:03, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Info on Stalker?

Perhaps some info on the Chester and Talinda's stalker over the last year should be added. A reference article is http://www.wired.com/entertainment/music/news/2007/05/ff_linkinpark?currentPage=all . --Steve Kroon 07:25, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

There was another stalker in September of 2008. The media did not pick up on it so there are not any good references. However, if one searches for Chester Bennington at the Orange County Court website his 2007 and 2008 stalking cases will come up. https://ocapps.occourts.org/CivilPub/ViewPerson.do Dopenose (talk) 14:33, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

re: death

Removed Chester's Death (posted as today) as cited no source. Assuming vandalism.

Especially as, his date of death is given as 15th August - it's not yet the 15th of August in Western Europe or the U.S. wtf? what death, he's still alive89.72.45.20 (talk) 15:53, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Pictures cluttering page

I think there are too many pictures for this short page - the edit links are all stuck down there next to each other (assuming that's due to the pictures)... I propose removing the picture of Chester performing without his shirt as there is already a much higher quality picture of him performing in the info box. SouperAwesome 10:45, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I added an image gallery at the bottom of the page. I'm using a wide screen resolution, so I'm not really sure how it would look like on a regular display. Hopefully it worked. :-p --ShadowJester07Talk 19:13, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Who keeps merging the Grey Daze article? I think they're pretty notable, they were relatively successful and still maintain a steady fanbase *points to self* Titan50 (talk) 20:39, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Notability on Wikipedia is not defined by a band's fanbase, but rather, several other points. See Wikipedia:Notability (music) for further information. Apparently the band is only considered notable on Wikipedia since Bennington was a member of the band. In which case, the article was redirected here by another editor. --ShadowJester07Talk 21:09, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
I did it. There was an AfD discussion, and the result was redirect. So unless the band becomes more notable (unlikely as the band is defunct), it stays a redirect. Precious Roy (talk) 01:27, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
What caused the article to be "unemerged" before Titan50 (talk) 19:00, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Someone took it upon himself to recreate the article against consensus; without going through WP:DRV or adding substantially different information, however, this means it can be changed back to a redirect at any time. Which I did. Precious Roy (talk) 20:21, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Velvet Revolver Rumors

Chester denied rumors that he was joining VR. Is it notable?

Sign your posts by adding these: ~~~~. second: NO, it is not notable, plus; Why would he join VR? Slash & Chester would be a WICKED team though... Altenhofen (talk) 01:57, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Well he did jam with them a few times and Duff said he was in favor of that, and Chester even told Kerrang he woudn't ~~~~.

Off topic

The “Linkin Park” section in this article seems to going off-topic. While Bennington is (obviously) a member of Linkin Park, the section seems to mainly just talk about Linkin Park’s overall actions, as opposed to narrowing down on Bennington, and his specific contributions. The second paragraph and quote, are seemingly the only lines that directly relate to Bennington, where as the rest of the section is a summary of Linkin Park#Band history. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  17:08, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

All right. After looking at the article – everything from “Hybrid Theory was released in the United States on October 24, 2000 following the debut of "One Step Closer"” to “An an interview with Q101's Kevin Manno at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, Bennington stated Linkin Park will be returning to the studio sometime in November to begin recording for their next album. “ should be removed. It does not directly pertain to Chester, but rather Linkin Park. Instead of focusing on Linkin Park as a hole, I suggest directly focusing on Bennington's role with the band.
  • His vocal delivery in contrast to Shinoda
  • His input to the band's work
  • Specific connections to certain songs (ex '”Crawling” bit)
  • Inspiration for songs/material
  • Role with other musicians/bands/acts.
Not to detract anything from your work; I personally liked the earlier revisions of this page, as it was more direct and contained less filler material. The headings needed some work and it could have used some more substance, but at least it entirely focuses on the article's subject :-p I suggest explainind on this snippet:
Bennington primarily serves as Linkin Park's lead vocalist, but occasionally shares the role Shinoda. All Music Guide described Bennington's vocals as more “higher-pitched” and “emotional”, in contrast to Shinoda's hip-hop-style delivery. Both members also work together to write lyrics for the band's songs.<ref name='nyrock-int'>{{cite news | first=Talia | last=Soghomonian | coauthors= | title=interview with Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park | date=[[May 2003|2003-05]] | publisher= | url =http://www.nyrock.com/interviews/2003/linkin_int.asp | work =NY Rock | pages = | accessdate = 2008-09-30 | language = }}</ref>

A good catch. I performed a google search for the quote in the section and came across a few forum posts. They in turn found it from an interview Bennington did for BBC. He can find the audio file here: [2] The full transcript is here [3]. Unfortunately, it appears the original BBC article has been deleted, and I do not know when the audio transcript was published. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  20:39, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

Is it true that his vocal range is Tenor? and also that he uses the Fry technique to scream? There is a lot of websites stating these facts however I am unable to find an official/reliable source to back up this information. - SilentDan297 talk 22:26, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Infobox

The guidelines for Template:Infobox musical artist ask us to only mention 'instruments' that an artist is best known for. For the exact written text from the guideline:

This field is only relevant for individuals. General class(es) of instrument(s) played by the artist, e.g. guitar or violin. Include singing, rapping, beatboxing and/or scat singing if relevant. Separate multiple entries by using commas or flatlist. Instruments listed in the infobox should be limited to only those that the artist is primarily known for using. The instruments infobox parameter is not intended as a WP:COATRACK for every instrument the subject has ever used.

Please note the last portion of this excerpt. Yes, Bennington plays the guitar and keyboard, but he is usually only credited and best known for his vocal contributions. Yes, he 'raps', but he rarely raps on Linkin Park albums - maybe one or two official tracks on albums. This section is not indented to be a resume, but offer a brief overview of what an artist is best known for. There is already a reminder in the infobox regarding this guideline, but someone keeps removing it... If you have any other opinions, please state so here. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  00:18, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
