The formatting on the electoral wards is slightly confusing here. And Urpeth (normally known as Urpeth Grange) and Grange Villa are quite far apart - I'd be suprised if they are in the same electoral ward.

Reverted name change?[edit]

Why was the name changed from Chester-le-Street District back to Chester-le-Street (district) (with edit summary “restore naming convention”)?

  • I can't find such a convention at WP:NAME or Wikipedia:Naming conventions (places)
  • articles for several UK districts and boroughs do not have parentheses
  • WP:DAB says If there is a choice between using a short phrase and word with context, there is no hard rule about which is preferred
  • unnecessary parentheses look ugly, and need attract piped links in prose.

Hello. Check out Category:Shire districts. We used the simple name e.g. Spelthorne where that is available. If that is not available we have used the name with "(borough)" or "(district)" at the end. MRSCTalk 06:52, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Some of these have had their official names, and the parentheses added later. I think my justifications (above) are stronger than an unwritten convention, but I can't be bothered with starting a debate for each one. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 20:26, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
