IMDb references[edit]

An SPA has insisted on inserting and keeping references from the IMDb article on Fox. This despite the fact that it has been pointed out that IMDb is not a reliable source (see WP:RS/IMDB). The argument was made that what was being cited was the biography on IMDb that was written by Fox herself. Such an argument does not hold. First, the reason IMDb is not treated as a reliable source on Wikipedia is because it is user edited with no fact checking. Anyone could say they are Fox and insert a biography on their own. The information in that bio is unreliable unless it has been verified by other reliable sources. Second, even if it could be proven that Fox wrote that biography, it would still not be a good source because Wikipedia is built on reliable third party sources that are independent of the subject (see WP:V and WP:RS). I suggest users find such reliable sources instead of inserting unreliable ones. Michitaro (talk) 01:41, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
