I see no reason why Carola Häggkvist should be on a list of people who may or may not be dead. So I removed her. 85.165.43.120 23:09, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Views on homosexuality

Ok, I see that Carola fans are editing out the article instead of getting into an edit war please discuss that part of the article here and then make the changes. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Latex (talkcontribs) .

I edit this article 'cause it should be neutral. Claudiaz

I have removed the last comment added by an anonymous user, which was equally POV as some pro-Carola comments here. Could we please stick to the facts here? I don't speak Swedish well enough to be able to understand what QX is saying in the link provided to us, a translation would come in handy. Still, what is true is that:
  • QX wrote something about what she said
  • She later denied that, saying she was misunderstood and misquoted
These are the facts. Let us not speculate beyond them. Bravada, talk - 10:56, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
  • This is the answer of Carola (2006)

"Esctoday.com: The interview you gave in QX Magazine was misunderstood by many people, after what you said about homosexuality being cured by prayer. Carola: First you mentioned the QX article, but that was maybe five years ago, but the first thing was in '91, and that isn't even worth mentioning now. It was an interpretation that not only the journalist made, but also the gossip magazines and the evening papers. They want to have a fight between everything they can, to write and make a fuss about it. That was not my intention at all. I met that journalist in Norway when I did the promotion (for Sweden 2006) and he said the same thing: that they had misunderstood what the article was saying. And I told him that where I was coming from in my head at that time sounded strange, and I'm sorry for that. It was not my intention. I don't think being gay is a sickness. That's just not true at all! This time I had a really good interview with that reporter in Norway. Carola's manager replies: "But as I said, it was brought up again in the QX magazine. They took some quotes from the QX magazine, brought them to the newspapers articles and put them together with stuff from eight years back, and again everything became messed up again. It created a whole different view that had never been there in the first place." Carola: Yes, it had never been my intention to speak against anyone or anything like that. I am very including. I've had the luck to work with the best of the best. And gay people often work in show biz. I've felt such support, and it's wonderful..."

  • The same magazine say she is "a gay icon" & now the polemic is over except for some people.

Final Paragraph in "Views on Homosexuality"

For the record, the paragraph which used to be here and reads as follows:
Those words, however, totally contradicted her statements from 2002 where she still describes gay people as "unnatural." One might wonder which of the two interviews reflects Häggkvist's true emotions, as the Eurovision Song Contest is known to be an event that is mainly viewed and followed by a large gay community worldwide.
is written from a POV standpoint and has no business being here. The "unnatural" quote is found earlier on anyway, which the sentence from "One might..." onwards is nothing but editorialising. Wikipedia's object is to present facts and leave conclusions to the reader, rather than presenting conclusions. BigHaz 05:03, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

It's nice to see somebody agreeing on that. Since there is another user who reverted (at least partially) the changes made by the 80.135... anonymous editor, I don't feel like I am breaking any rules by bringing back the original form of what is now the last paragraph. I believe giving the source in case of such controversial issues is crucial. What do you guys think about it? Bravada, talk - 09:00, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
With a source, it looks just on the right side of the issue. Thinking about that entire section, I'm not overly enamoured of the idea that "her comment caught up with her", since that implies something unsavoury ("His past life caught up with him") and sounds a tad POV. I'll leave it for now, though, since it's really just a vague feeling rather than anything more concrete. BigHaz 01:48, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm a bit busy but I will have a good look and think in a couple of days time. Thanks, Blnguyen | rant-line 02:14, 3 July 2006 (UTC).

Definitely that paragraph was correctly removed. It is extreme POV and personal analysis. As it stands, the homosexuiality controversy seems overblown and out of proportion. Speaking from Australia, I only know her as a Eurovision winner. I'm sure many non-Europeans don't see her off-stage philospohy to be important at all, and possible a lot of non-swedish Europeans might not care either.Blnguyen | rant-line 02:04, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Not that it matters much either way, but some of my European friends (I'm an Aussie too) were certainly none too keen on her before this year's ESC precisely because of her reported beliefs on homosexuality. BigHaz 02:28, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Eurovision Song Contest 2007

In May 2007, Carola performed in front of a small audience alongside StepUp dancers Osku Heiskanen and Jarkko Valtee for YLE at the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki. (...) Carola held a fan to her face in the later stages of the performance, a parody of the on-stage equivalents used today.

This wasn't Carola right? It was Jarkko Valtee (drag artist) dressed up as Carola.

He doesn't even look (that much) like Carola.

Silvia Night

Also shouldn't some mention be made of the fact that Silviu Nocht called her an "ugly old bitch from Sweden"?
