Gay Icon Project

In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 20:08, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I edited the information for Carol's NBC series "Carol and Company" to reflect that it ran for 2 seasons. She gave up this series when CBS lured her back to revive her variety series. Jude86 15:53, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Is she really a gay icon? She has endorsed quite a few Republican candidates over the years; was friends with Ronald Reagan and remains friends with nancy Reagan; and endorsed George W Bush in 2000 over Gore. She is not as vocal now re politics, but its pretty well known that she's one of Hollywood's few leading/remaining Republicans. Doesn't mean that she's anti-gay. Many older Hollywood celebrities were/are very liberal re sexuality issues, etc., and still favored conservative politics re international and fiscal issues. Just wondering.116.91.78.243 (talk) 11:11, 27 May 2012 (UTC)Timo

Sex Change source? Vandalism?

Will an editor please look at the sex change section. From what I understand she has children so how is it possible for her to have once been a man. I cannot find any references to the alleged talk of her being born a man. --Kiplingru 23:22, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Lawsuits moved

I moved the lawsuit section because it seemed out of place both chronologically and in terms of importance to the article. It made no sense to have it in between the Early Life and Career sections. emw 03:12, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Theme song

There is no mention of her theme song (I'm so glad we had this time together...) in the article. Could someone add that, and perhaps add an entry for her in the Signature song article? — Loadmaster 16:35, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Done, and done. NickBurns 20:54, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

In everyone's opinion how does the theme rank when compared in TV Theme Song History? For me, it is in the top 60-70 overall on a list of 100. kdm85 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kdm85 (talkcontribs) 16:02, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Direct quote

A recent IP editor wanted to change a direct quote, I reverted it because direct quotes should not be altered except possibly to shorten them. The words used however should not be changed to other words. Wjhonson (talk) 02:31, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia's no Life and no career

What does this section heading in the article mean? Also: could the introductory section use a rewrite to make it more clear? I'd do it myself, but I'm not sure exactly what the author is trying to say.

Fair use rationale for Image:Carol burnett show 2.jpg

Image:Carol burnett show 2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

70.232.163.51 (talk) 01:55, 3 January 2010 (UTC) Re: Carol Burnett biography: There was no reference to her numerous appearances on the Jack Benny TV Show during the mid 60's. I was surprised by such an obvious omission. 70.232.163.51 (talk) 01:55, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Carol Burnett at Tamiment

The summer after my freshman year in college, I worked as a barwaiter at a resort named Tamiment in the Poconos. I read the following that was written on a wall backstage at the theater next to the Tavern on the Lake... "In memory of those who lived here, died here, and loved it" ... Carol Burnett

Thank you for this contribution! I am bawling my eyes out now! Can we include this in the opening paragraph somehow? 220.233.131.62 (talk) 06:12, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
No. It is not in the least encyclopedic. First, it is not verifiable (How do we know it is written there and who wrote it? We don't.). Next, there is no indication it is a significant enough aspect of her life to include in her biography (If it is, a reliable source somewhere will have discussed it. Got one?). Finally, it's a whispy, sentimental thought. Though you may love it, it simply does not belong in an encyclopedia. - SummerPhD (talk) 00:29, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
I worked at Tamiment in 1974 and 1975, as a dining room waiter. I do not recall "Tavern on the Lake." Tamiment had one "night club" in the main building.

City & state linking

As I noted in the edit history here, users should follow WP:SPECIFICLINK when listing city and state. It is unhelpful and unnecessary to link to them individually, unless they are separated contextually. X4n6 (talk) 22:00, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
