Olympic Record

First off... I fixed the table to show bronze instead of gold. But Carmelo's olympic experience isn't documented other than he was on the team. Anyone have his stats? 24.58.47.53 01:42, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Puetrocian = Mutliracial

Firstly you need a source. If someone looks at Carmello Anthony they would assume he is black so you need a source that suggest or proves that Anthony is half Puetro Rican. Also there are black Puerto Ricans so that doesn't make him Multiracial if his dad was a black Puerto Rican. There needs to be sources that say his Puerto Rican parent is not only Puerto Rican but not black, otherwise Anthony is not multiracial, or we cannot assume that because he is not very multiracial looking.

Well his mother is half black so thats why he is black. But really, i dont event think this is relevant, he is puerto rican, its in his blood.

It may be in his blood, but his passport reads "US", as does his national team jersey. Please differentaite between nationality and descent. -Plasticbadge 15:03, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Hopefully this will settle it

Team USA's first loss in Olympic play using NBA players was to Puerto Rico in Athens. Anthony's late father was from Puerto Rico, and he has family there. The Baltimore product had a Puerto Rican flag tattooed on his hand last year. His fiancée, Lala Vasquez, also is Puerto Rican.

Anthony hasn't forgotten that historic loss.

"I don't know (my family there) that well, but the Spanish people I do know gave me some grief," Anthony said.

POV

I added the {{POV-check}} template to this page, because it seems to be written exclusively from a pro-Carmelo Anthony/Denver Nuggets point of view. For example, "Unfortunately, LA stole the first two games of the series." There are also some unnecessary adjectives like "dazzled". Khatru2 21:23, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

I did some cleanup in the rookie section of the article to eliminate some of the POV nature. I also cleaned up some of the grammar, made the references to him more consistent (Anthony, not Melo or Carmelo), and changed the spelling of post-season "birth" to "berth." I left in some of the basketball vernacular, but took out words like "torched" and "unfortunately." Before I get scolded, I am a native of Syracuse and a lifelong fan of the Orange(men) so Melo is something akin to a god to me, but even I could tell that this is NPOV. If there are no ojections, I'll see about cleaning the rest of it up. Mykll42 07:59, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
I did some further cleanup in the Further seasons (awkward section title). I eliminated the POV language, eliminated some of the less critical statistics (passing Laphonso Ellis for 14th on the Nuggets all time scoring list seemed less than notable). Any instance of Carmelo or Melo I changed to "Anthony." It's hard to sound NPOV or encyclopedic when we constantly switch names. I eliminated the mention 13 coaches voting for him because I couldn't find it in the Denver Post (and I didn't understand it anyway). I don't know if other basketball players include up to date statistics on their page, but that's not really what an encyclopedia is for. If someone bolder than me wants to eliminate a lot of those milestones, I wouldn't mind but I think the author should do it. Mykll42 20:54, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Your edits have been a major improvement to the article, and I no longer think that there is a POV issue. I added an {{unreferenced}} template to the "Charity work" section, because it needs more specific citations. Thanks. Khatru2 23:11, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Rockin, glad I could help. Maybe I'll take a peek at those donations myself. Mykll42 23:26, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Plagiarism

Uh ohhhh.... someone was a bad boy! Large parts of his charitable donations are plagiarized from that article where I found the citation. I'll look up how to fix plagiarism issues, but if someone fixes it before me, that'd be cool. This is the pilfered article: [1] Mykll42 06:46, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

OK, yeah... one of the other paragraphs was lifted wholesale, too. I kept and cited the one important line and just tossed the rest. The third paragraph was actually original work (!) but I wnet ahead and found sources for the info anyway. This was fun for my first attempt at straightening out an article. I got to play with POV, missing sources, and plagiraism, all in one go! Mykll42 07:09, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Please don't remove my comments. In researching the unsourced statements I found most of the article lifted whole cloth from NBA.com. I fixed it but there is no reason to delete it. Mykll42 22:56, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

We need a picture of Carmelo.

I added a photo taken from the White House website. It's not the greatest photo in the world, but at least it's in the public domain. Chengwes 03:54, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Pre-GA review

Okay, so I notice there are a lot of unsourced claims. I would think all these records and such would be documented for us to cite. I also notice there are a few stats about other players, like Bryant, which seem out of place in this article. I question whether years need to be mentioned in the dates under the season sections, considering the years are listed in the section header. There also appears to be some overwikification in that the same articles are linked multiple times. This is debatable, however, as some feel it's fine to wikify the same articles in separate sections. So that's just a suggestion. Surely not more than once per section, however.

I copy-edited a bit, moved some info into chronological order, condensed paragraphs and worked on the prose a bit. I also formatted the references.. I may have missed some. I'll check back later. Off to work soon. There's still some polishing to do, but it's looking better. Work on finding those sources, though. LaraLove|Talk 19:51, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

As someone who's contributed a lot of content to this article, I thought I'd chime in here. I added several references to some statements, a couple of which were the basis of fact tags that you removed and mentioned in one of your edit summaries. Also, as far as stats concerning other players, such as Kobe Bryant, I only included those stats if they somehow correlated with a noteworthy achievement. For example, in the content regarding Anthony's .760 field goal percentage on February 8, 2008, that's mentioned in the "2007-08 season" section - I included Bryant's stats because he was the only other player who came out ahead of Anthony's field goal percentage, and I thought that the avid reader might want to know who actually topped Anthony regarding that achievement. If Anthony was somehow fifth or sixth, rather than second, then obviously, I wouldn't include that info. I hope you now understand the context behind the inclusion of those stats.
Also, if you can think of any other specific examples that need citation in the article, then please let me know, and I'll try to search for sources. -- Luke4545 (talk) 23:04, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
I added another charitable donation he made. Also added his NBA.com player profile as a reference for some things throughout the article. Darry2385 (talk) 23:09, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
OK. I added a lot of references for his first three years in the NBA. Still need more references for 2006–07 and 2007-08. Chengwes (talk) 05:27, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

It's looking really good. The newly added sources need to be formatted. Otherwise, it's looking like it's about ready. Just expand the lead to briefly cover each section, and work that new one sentence paragraph into an existing paragraph. LaraLove|Talk 20:57, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

New work

I have some insider information that Carmelo is helping to develop a "liquid chalk" technology. Here is the full press release

Power Grip is a proprietary formula designed to eliminate sweaty hands - a common problem among athletes often leading to slippery grip - basketball, tennis, golf, baseball, gymnastics, etc.

It is a "liquid chalk" technology that eliminates the need for messy chalk, powder and other ineffective, messy and cumbersome products previously used to combat sweaty hands. Carmelo worked hand in hand with the company to create the formula, applicator and design of Power Grip MISSION is the first and only line of Athlete-Engineered products designed to improve performance and safety in competition. Led by a premier group of world-class athletes including Serena Williams, David Wright, Georges St-Pierre and Mia Hamm among others, the company is pioneering an entirely new category in the sports industry called Athletecare.

MISSION and its elite athlete partners know that athletes have a unique set of needs – before, during and after their training or competition. To meet those dynamic needs, the MISSION Lab Team is spearheaded by world-renowned doctors, scientists and athletes – who collaboratively engineer the MISSION products to meet the highest demands of performance. From a sunscreen that is clinically proven to not sting your eyes to a proprietary Anti-Friction Cream that lasts up to five times longer than the competition, MISSION is focused on true product innovations that are unmatched in the marketplace – and give athletes the advantage they need. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.150.236.86 (talk) 14:21, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Added a picture of him on the Knicks

My first time uploading a photo, I found it on Flickr and it has the some rights reserved license which is acceptable from what I've read. I also uploaded this one http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c4/David_Lee_dunk_Wilson_Chandler_contest.jpg. Can someone knowledgeable on uploading double check? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DA Fernandez (talkcontribs) 04:52, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello, DA Fernandez. You don't say where on Flickr you found the images, but regardless of what you found there about licensing, Wikipedia will either require evidence that the author has released the images under a free license, or a fair-use rationale (which is unlikely in this case). See the next section for more info. – Wdchk (talk) 18:44, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Its a lot to ask for just to add an image I don't want to go through all this trouble, I'm fine with it being deleted thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DA Fernandez (talkcontribs) 00:30, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Well, the image had a "no commercial use" license so it's no good on Wikipedia. For future uploads, If you're grabbing images from Flickr, use the Flickr upload bot or Flinfo, which will fill out the source info automatically, and has the added benefit of weeding out images that aren't free enough for Wikipedia. Anyway, I think the current image is perfectly fine. --Mosmof (talk) 05:17, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

{{WikiProject Puerto Rico}} added. BTW, anon user entirely correct. Since 1917 all Puerto Ricans are US citizens. In fact, anyone born in Puerto Rico is entitled to citizenship as if they where born in a State, even if the parents are not US citizens. It is indeed a complicated matter, some might think the distinction is like being Texan others like being Chicano, and yet others as being, say, Russian, but the fact is this kid is PRican. Thanks!--Cerejota 07:19, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

He was not born in Puerto Rico, and there is no source saying he was a resident of Puerto Rico. The tag for Puerto Rican basketball players should be removed, but the tag for American people of Puerto Rican descent can stay. 71.255.88.243 (talk) 11:41, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Why has no information been added? 12-13 is about to begin and still nothing. Since being traded to the Knicks the article has really regressed. New Trade

Seems fairly clear that the trade to the Bulls is official. Should be added while taking into consideration the high probability the Bulls will release him.

Suggestion for section to add (under 3.4 Houston Rockets (2018-present))

On January 22nd, 2019, the Rockets officially traded Anthony along with undisclosed cash considerations to the Chicago Bulls in order to alleviate luxury-tax penalties up to $2.6 million. The deal is expected to include some draft compensation and Anthony is unlikely to see playing time with the Bulls.[1]— Preceding unsigned comment added by Princess Audrey of Ixelles (talkcontribs) 19:26, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

You cited an article from Monday, Jan 21, that says it "could not be executed Monday because the league office was closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day." That's hardly "official" that it will occur on the 22nd, and it also uses an anonymous source: "according to a person with knowledge of the deal". Please refer to WP:SPORTSTRANS. One of the teams will inevitably announce something themselves if a deal happens.—Bagumba (talk) 19:55, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Carmelo Anthony - Early life and high school

Is the below information on Carmelo true and accurate? Have the references been verified by any other references?

Early life and high school

Anthony was born in the Red Hook housing projects in Brooklyn, New York City.[5] His father, Carmelo Iriarte, was born in Manhattan to Puerto Rican parents. Iriarte was of African, Spanish, and indigenous ancestry; some of his roots also traced to Venezuela.[6][7][8] His mother, Mary Anthony, is African-American.[9] Iriarte died of cancer when Anthony was two years old.[10] When Anthony turned eight, his family moved to Baltimore, where he honed not only his athletic skills, but his survival skills. Kenny Minor, one of Anthony's childhood friends, said, "from drugs to killings, to anything you can name that goes on in the roughest parts of town, we've seen and witnessed hands on. Those are the things that teach you toughness and keep you mentally focused on your goals." Sports would serve as an important diversion from the violence and drug dealing that were pervasive in the housing projects a few blocks from the homes of Anthony and his friends.[11] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lewis.clive (talkcontribs) 01:14, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

@Lewis.clive: It's usually more effective if you can specify your exact concerns, and offer suggested changes, if possible. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 03:57, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Change the article's main picture of Carmelo Anthony during his tenure with the New York Knicks to a picture of him during his tenure with the Denver Nuggets, as that was his longest tenure with any nba franchise. Yxngmidnight (talk) 02:01, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

@Yxngmidnight: Any image used will need to be licensed in a way that allows for reuse for any purpose (often a Creative Commons license, as is the case with the current photo). If you can find an image like that, then it can be uploaded and used in the article. RudolfRed (talk) 02:39, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Should Melo's career history include the Rockets in 2019?

He never played a game with them in the year 2019. Yeah, he was on the team but he was on the Bulls too and they aren't listed, and isn't Wikipedia's policy only if they played for that team during the stint? Sneakycrown (talk) 05:07, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Carmelo has signed a 1-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Woj from ESPN just announced that Free Agent Carmelo Anthony has signed a 1-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony's manager Bay Frazier reported this to ESPN.— Preceding unsigned comment added by McLeanCountyKYWX (talkcontribs) 03:47, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

@McLeanCountyKYWX: More likely it says something like "agreed to terms", which is not signing. At any rate, he can't sign until Aug 6 at the earliest. The Free Agency Moratorium is a negotiation period from Aug. 2-6 in which teams may not sign most free agents or make trades ... Any deals struck during the moratorium period are characterized as agreements, but do not count toward team salary and are not binding for the player or team. Either side can back out in this situation — a scenario that took place in 2015 when DeAndre Jordan reneged on his verbal agreement with the Dallas Mavericks to instead re-sign with the then-incumbent LA Clippers.[3]Bagumba (talk) 04:12, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

Record for most points in an NBA quarter

Melo no longer holds the NBA record for most points in a quarter. That is currently held by the Golden State Warriors' Klay Thompson, with 37 points. 213.55.245.224 (talk) 21:47, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Add "The Mannie Jackson - Basketball's Human Spirit Award" 2019 Award Winner: Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony has committed his time and resources to positively impact his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. In 2006, he helped fund the revitalization of a local community center for local youth and opened The Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center. Additionally, Anthony has contributed $1.5 million to the Living Classrooms Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides innovative hands-on-education, job-training and community service programs for over 35,000 children, youth, and young adults in the East Baltimore community. On a national scale, Anthony has taken an active role in the wake of violence between police and African-Americans by organizing and delivering a powerful speech on the ESPYS stage denouncing all forms of violence. He continued this activism by marching with protestors of police brutality and organizing a townhall forum in Los Angeles that brought together black and Latino teenagers with local police officers. His continued efforts towards unity have inspired friends and teammates to also get involved. 2.135.53.176 (talk) 11:54, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Not done for now. Thanks for proposing this, it certainly does seem notable enough to include in the article. Unfortunately adding this specific text would be a copyright violation as it is taken verbatim from this copyrighted page. When you have the chance, you need to rewrite the text in your own words and add a reliable source so we can reference the facts in your rewritten text.
If those two things are done we can probably go ahead an add this to the article. -- Euryalus (talk) 12:15, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
