Canonical possession[edit]

Reid will become ordinary when he takes canonical possession of the Ordinariate in August. He's still in Canada, so I am not seeing what offices he already holds in Australia per canon 382. 2600:8800:1880:FC:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 18:12, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It is strange that there is a double-standard here - if a priest is appointed to become bishop, editors can agree that he is not ordinary of a new diocese until he is consecrated to the episcopate. If a bishop is appointed, or in this case, Reid does not require consecration, everyone jumps to place him in office before installation. I don't understand why it is so hard to understand. The main problem is that installations do not make splashy headlines or even worthy of a news report at all, so the editors feel compelled to make the changes as soon as the news release comes out. 2600:8800:1880:FC:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 18:18, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The common title for an appointee at this point would be "Bishop-elect". Would you like to call him "Ordinary-elect"? 2600:8800:1880:FC:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 18:24, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
