Nationality[edit]

And here is a source that indicates he has at least dual citizenship. "One day in late August, they were called to the embassy. More paperwork, they thought. A few hours later, they left with passports and Social Security numbers." Rikster2 (talk) 03:38, 9 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rikster2, it says "Oak Ridge alum Cady Lalanne stuck in Haiti for months after finding out at 18, he was an illegal immigrant." "he was deported to Haiti; born in Haiti; left at the age of 7" That is clear evidence that he was a citizen of that country. While it says that he was given a passport and SSN, it doesn't explicity say American. What if he never had a "Haitian passport" since arriving by boat to the US but obtained one (to allow him to travel legally) and received a SSN due to permanent residency status filed at the US embassey in Haiti. The details are not clear and there aren't any sources that mention him being an American. It also mentions that his mother became "legal" when she married an American. Again doesn't mention citizenship for her either. Savvyjack23 (talk) 03:21, 9 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
if you are given a passport and SSN, you are at least a dual citizen. Again, where is the source saying he is solely Haitian? The source goes out of its way to say the immigration issue was cleared up. At worst he is dual. Rikster2 (talk) 03:27, 9 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As per request Rikster2, here are a couple of sources that mention him a Haitian or a native or Haiti.
Newsweek: "...native of Haiti." [1]
Foxsports: "The 6-10 Haitian..." [2]
Pounding the Rock: "Lalanne is originally from Haiti but played four years in UMass." [3]

Okay dual is not beyond the realm of possibility. Its just that the source is unclear on what embassy in Haiti. Yes it says he left with a passport and SSN, but it could have been a Haitian passport and a SSN would come with residency filing to allow him back in the states. There are so many questions like, why was he deported? (Okay he was illegal but...) Why couldn't he handle the paperwork in the US? It just sounds a lot like permanent residency to me, by mentioning "legal" and "illegal". The article seems like it goes out of its way to NOT mention him being "American" and/or a "citizen". It's incredibly vague. Savvyjack23 (talk) 03:43, 9 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
To say he is a dual or a US citizen would be speculation based on what is present in that article. We both would be drawing conclusions. However, it is indisputable that he is Haitian. Savvyjack23 (talk) 04:00, 9 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
