Earlier best records section?[edit]

I was recently looking at the article for the Presidents' Trophy of the NHL, which has a section for teams that had the best regular season record before the trophy was awarded by the league. It also included teams from precursor leagues such as the National Hockey Association. Would it make sense to have a similar section in this article for Canadian Professional Soccer League (1983) and Canadian Soccer League (1987–92) teams which finished with the best regular season record? It's a good thought, but I have concerns. Those earlier leagues did not award the CPL Shield, so listing their regular season winners here would change the nature of this article. If they were added, I could see this article become redundant to the existing List of Canadian men's soccer champions. I am wordsmyth (talk) 19:12, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I created a draft for the idea here. Its a fair point, the section would have to very explicitly state that a trophy was not awarded, and no honour was recognized. I thought the President's trophy article did a decent job at this so I thought I would see if anyone else here agreed/disagreed, etc. RedBlueGreen93 19:53, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see the NHA mentioned at all in the Presidents's Trophy article. What am I missing? In any case, I don't think it's appropriate to mix CSL and CPL statistics together. They are totally different leagues with decades between them that have nothing to do with each other.
Many European countries have a continuous history of top-division football that is only broken up by re-brandings or business reorganizations. The most famous example is possibly England's Premier League replacing the Football League First Division in 1992. In that case, there was full continuity from the last FL season to the first PL season so it makes a lot of sense to have articles like List of English football champions to cover this history of the top division. The situation in Canada couldn't be more different so I'd like to stay away from that sort of thing. BLAIXX 00:21, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like I got this one wrong. I mistook a section about the interleague Stanley Cup era for the NHA. In that case, it may be best to leave it as is. RedBlueGreen93 00:37, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
