Deaths column[edit]

Wbm1058 as you started this page, I was wondering, is there any reason it doesn't have a 'Deaths' column for the clusters?
The numbers are in the 'Notes' column instead. I'm asking, because the "St Basil's Homes for the Aged", Melbourne cluster is the worst nursing home cluster in Australia, so far, with 45 dead, per ABC News [1]. Right now, it's not even mentioned on the main COVID-19 pandemic in Australia page! 220 of ßorg 03:20, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@220 of Borg: I'm not responsible for creating any of the content of this page, I simply split this off from Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia for technical reasons because that page was getting too long. The statistics page, in turn was split off from COVID-19 pandemic in Australia by CaptainEek on 16 August 2020 because that page was getting too long.
On 3 June 2020 Danielklein split hotspots and clusters into two sections. – wbm1058 (talk) 15:31, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Per discussion at Talk:COVID-19 pandemic in Australia/Archive 2#How are we defining the hotspots section? the hotspots section was removed on 12 June 2020.
On 6 May 2020 Danielklein converted hotspots and clusters data to a sortable table. The initial version of the table did not report any deaths figures, hence no need to create a column for that. – wbm1058 (talk) 15:31, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Wbm1058: Ah, so the chart didn't have any deaths at the start. I thought there might be another reason, like consistency with other countries similar pages. I think I'll add a 'Deaths' column when I get a chance. Regards, 220 of ßorg 04:15, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Liverpool Hospital cluster 2021[edit]

FYI, there's another cluster there per https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-27/nsw-records-172-new-covid19-cases/100325680.

"Health authorities revealed that an outbreak at Liverpool Hospital which was reported yesterday has spread with two nurses, a student nurse and eight patients testing positive."

@Maranello10: Looks like the Liverpool Hospital cluster is ongoing, with 5 associated deaths, 3 on 6 August. See https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/news/Pages/20210807_00.aspx And https://www.sbs.com.au/news/frontline-workers-on-covid-19-ward-at-sydney-s-liverpool-hospital-don-t-feel-safe Regards, 220 of ßorg 16:21, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Treatment of clusters in light of COVID-zero abandonment[edit]

I am happy to maintain the covid cluster table until the end of Australia's suppression stage, however, with the abandonment of a covid-zero strategy in NSW and now Victoria as of 1 September, I will no longer add clusters from these two states (I will continue to update the numbers for clusters that started before 1 September), or any other state once they abandon the covid-zero strategy. The clusters will not only become too numerous (NSW is already unreportable) but they are objectively not as important as outbreaks in COVID-free states, and will actually overwhelm the table without adding much value for the reader. I have added the appropriate caveats to the introduction to reflect this.

Once Australia reaches 80% vaccination coverage and exits the suppression stage of the pandemic I believe this table should no longer be updated for the same reasons as above. Adding clusters once the virus is endemic will be pointless as it will no longer be the principle focus of the health response. In contrast, having the table include only a comprehensive list of clusters from the suppression stage of the pandemic would serve as a good historical record.

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated. Maranello10 (talk) 14:47, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
