Removed from article

I have no idea why these were in the article, so I removed them. If someone wants to create a new article based on the info (find out if one already exists first), feel free:

Play by e-Mail

a Play by e-Mail or PbeM is a turn-based strategygame, wargame or RPG. It is played by sending e-mails from player to player or from player to a game host and vise versa. In the later all players send in orders and at a given time (for example once a week) the host will compute the turn and send reports to all players, who will write new orders and so on. Some popular PbeM games include VGA Planets and the free Atlantis PbeM.

...and I removed this link from the "See also" section:

since it relates to the "Play by email" section. I also added Miniclip in the "See also" section since it is an Internet game site. If there is a list of these sites somewhere, it can be moved there (a link to the list should be added to the article). It was a requested article, so I created it. Too many links!

This article has more external links than I have ever seen in a Wikipedia article (the homeschooling article was #1 until they trimmed them). I guess this has to do with the nature of the article, but surely, can't we get rid of a lot of them? At the very least we could try to categorize them. If we trim, some top sites should stay, such as Miniclip, Zone.com and Pogo.com. Most the others can go since they amount to little more than clutter. I moved the links that people kept adding to and citing as "examples" in the main article to the end in an organized fashion. I think having links to these games in the article is tantamount to advertising but they still have a spot in information for those looking for such games. -Moocats 17:13, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

Example Links

The only thing that should go under Example Links should be links to games that have NPOV articles and are related to browser based games/internet games. This prevents link spam and deletion of content that could be useful to others. -Moocats 14:16, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

I would call this article "Browser Games"

I'm not sure I'd refer to these games as "Internet" games, this seems to actually be listing "web browser" games. I would consider such games as Counter-Strike an "Internet Game" as its primary method of play is over the Internet. I'd suggest renaming this article "Web-based Games" or something along those lines and rewrite this article to cover the vast array of games that have an Internet component. — Xenoveritas 17:01, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Advertising

People are taking it upon themselves to promote their own websites, it seems. What is the policy here? Deskana 20:21, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

I've been following this article for some time and consider myself it's keeper in some ways. Part of it is due to the fact that some people feel the need to insert their own favorite BBG. I investigate such BBGs and judge whether the article is an advertisement stub or a worthy article. Those with nothing more than a link and a sentence or two are removed while those with some history or at least something more than a handful of information are kept up. The only two that have stayed the course are the Battle game and Runescape. Other people have also attempted to post their own favorite game sites (sites with listings of BBGs) under that area but mostly those have just been spam. It's hard to sort out what's a link and what's spam this being TOTALLY browser based games but you can figure it out with a bit of judge on amount and quality of content usually :) -Moocats 19:17, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

• One solution might be, as was done for MMOG and MMORPG, is have a separate list of browser games article, with lower standards of inclusion for links, and merge any game links in this article into the text. Glad I missed the advertising list. Wondering if there any useful extensions to the parent article (browser based games is a broad area.)

Add: Selection Of Popular Sites

Their are many game sites out their avaliable, the most popular whould be http://www.nuweb.co.uk http://www.fastarcade.com http://www.ebaumsworld.com Although it whould also be good to include some "TOPSITES" for game sites such as: http://www.arcadetopsites.com/ http://www.top100pcgamesites.com/ http://www.gamessiteslist.com/ http://www.freearcadesites.com/ http://www.totalwebgames.com/ < you don't call that links spam?

I'm honestly thinking of removing all the links, the pages aren't really "extended information" more just a page of links to games. This whole area is a big area for people to try and subtly add "linkspam". I think unless a site specifically references information on browser based games (such as how to make them, history, etc.) then it's going to be removed from now on. -Moocats 23:32, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

External Links

I believe there can be a compromise in posting external links (this is directed mostly towards user Jason who's change to links I have recently reverted). According to the Wiki policy on External Links one such "web directory" of games may be posted with preference taken toward an open directory if available. http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Browser_Based/ happens to be such a directory and would hopefully satisfy both parties involved if it were the site to be put up.
