Per WP:ACRONYM, "SIPTU" should be spelled out the first time it is used. Wikipedia is written for an international audience, not just for people already in the know. Readers outside of Ireland won't have a clue what SIPTU means, even if that's what everyone in Ireland calls it. WP:ACRONYM lists "BBC" as an exception to this rule, by the way. Yes, lets create some rules then render them pointless by adding exceptions, whatever! Also its wikilinked, so "readers won't have a clue argument" is nonsense, unless they don't know how wiki links work, in which case the whole of wikipedia is pointless to them! I don't understand your argument for providing less information to the reader instead of more. Wikipedia is here to provide information to an international audience, not just people who already know this stuff. Why make a reader click on a link to understand an article? Why is the problem with just spelling it out? People who already know what SIPTU is are hardly inconvenienced by seeing the full name.
