Fair use rationale for Image:Clannadpaul.jpg[edit]

Image:Clannadpaul.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 18:39, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

henderson the rain king[edit]

what passage is the song based on? It'd be useful to include this, or at least the page number of said passage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.14.117.234 (talk) 16:58, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why is the Clannad/Paul Young infobox there? As the article makes clear, plenty of bands and individuals have recorded versions of this song - is there any reason why their version deserves special treatment? Dom Kaos (talk) 13:10, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No other comments, so I'm removing it Dom Kaos (talk) 17:21, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So what is it?[edit]

All this name-dropping, and not a word on what the song is about or what the tune sounds like! CharlesTheBold (talk) 04:22, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Both Sides Now - multiple 2000 Joni recordings[edit]

  • "Both Sides, Now" (4:32) Released 1967 * Song by Joni Mitchell from the album Clouds

There are at least two different "2000" recordings of Joni singing BSN:

  • studio recording version on BSN album (recorded 1999) released Feb/Mar 2000 - track 12, 5:45
  • single released 2000 (exact same as album track?)
"Both Sides Now" will also be the first single serviced from the project. It goes to triple-A, jazz, adult standards, and NPR stations Feb. 15. (jonimitchell.com/library/print.cfm?id=633)
  • live performance April 6, 2000 version:
"In tribute to Mitchell, the TNT network presented an all-star celebration at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on April 6, 2000. Mitchell's songs were sung by many performers... Mitchell herself ended the evening with a rendition of "Both Sides Now" with a 70-piece orchestra.[94] The version was featured on the soundtrack to the movie Love Actually."
  • The last part of this article lede sentence therefore may be mistaken:
"She re-recorded the song in a lusher, orchestrated version for her 2000 album Both Sides Now; this version was subsequently featured on the soundtrack to the 2003 film Love Actually."

There are at least three appearances of BSN song associated with the movie Love Actually (2003): the inclusion within the movie (1:25); featured within a bonus extra on the movie DVD (about 2min); on the movie soundtrack album (track 9, 5:46).

  • movie inclusion:
Both Sides Now * Joni Mitchell
1:25 Karen gets the CD as a present. She puts on this song and cries in her room. Meanwhile Mia tries on the necklace in her room.

These three may or may not be identical. Do they all actually derive from the TNT April 6, 2000 performance, not the BSN album studio track?-71.174.190.122 (talk) 16:37, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How Collins Acquired the song?[edit]

Some insight into how the song came to be first recorded by a rival performer (in a style which Mitchell herself did not particularly like) would be helpful. Did JM offer it to Collins or was it already published but unrecorded by Mitchell? In fact, it turns out that Mitchell met Collins by way of Al Copper who phoned Collins about his “find” and had Mitchell sing her song over the phone to her. Collins immediately went to see her in person. Suggestion: Move this article back to "Both Sides Now (song)"[edit]

This article apparently started life as Both Sides Now (song). User:MuzikJunky changed the title to Both Sides, Now (song) on 20 May 2009‎ and User:Sylvain1972 moved it to Both Sides, Now on 30 July 2010‎. Both moves were well-intentioned. However there is no need for a comma in the song title, and indeed there isn't one. Nor is there any need for a comma in the article title, and there shouldn't be one. The parenthetical (song) is appropriate because there are several similarly titled articles. Comments, anyone? Thanks. --Frans Fowler (talk) 12:33, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The song title is "Both Sides, Now." That is how it is listed on the album. Why do you say there isn't one?Sylvain1972 (talk) 15:27, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I see now that perhaps you were going by Judy Collins' version. Mitchell has it with a comma, and as the writer of the song I think we should consider that version the standard.Sylvain1972 (talk) 15:31, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Capo Fret[edit]

The article says she plays the song with a capo on the second fret and quotes a print source. I've watched two different live performances by her on YouTube and the capo is quite clearly at the fifth fret. I haven't edited the article though as presumably that won't count as a legitimate source. 82.71.30.178 (talk) 11:47, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

First Recording by Mitchell live in 1966 @ Second Fret, Philadelphia[edit]

„An 18-track set recorded live at The Second Fret club in Philadelphia in 1966, a full two years before the release of her debut album 'Song To A Seagull'. The concert was broadcast on Temple University's radio station WRTI on Nov. 17th, 1966“
