Untitled[edit]

Why is it called Boston Pizza if it has nothing to do with Boston?

I asked a waitress at one of the Ontario loactions and she said it was because the gys favorite hockey team was the Bruins.

According to http://www.bostonsgourmet.com/about/our-heritage/, the American Boston Pizza website's history page, the name was simply recognizable due to the large number of popular entities with the name Boston. (Right at the end there, if I read it correctly.)

As an aside, has anyone else noticed that the George Melville link in the first couple paragraphs links to Rear Admiral Melville, who died in 1912? (68.149.176.81 (talk) 00:09, 28 March 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Split Crow Controversy[edit]

Yes, I realize that there is likely a controversy; however, unless the controversy starts to receive mainstream media coverage, we can not neutrally verify it and it must stay out of the Wikipedia article until we can verify it using a neutral source. Does a link to the Facebook petition against it count? --Cbd2000 06:29, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd hardly call that neutral. Andy Saunders 13:26, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Self Promotion on Wikipedia Page[edit]

Just a reminder to ALL users on this page that self promotional edits are strictly prohibited.

I believe that Jterr88 and Jkuss85 are both apart of the Boston Pizza communications team. A sock puppet complaint has been filed. Gsgeek540 (talk) 00:30, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While I totally agree that the tone of these edits was clearly from BP people, there was also a lot of good and relevant information in them - especially in the second one - about legitimate subjects of interest to a Wikipedia article, such as their charity work, their Valentines promotion (which as a long-time resident in their home province is well-known), and various other details. It would be nice to see the relevant information in the article, after removing the self-serving language and adding citations, rather than just reverting the edits completely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.207.65.88 (talk) 07:43, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is still promotion of a business and is strictly prohibited. Doesn't matter if they remove the words "us" and "we". At the end of the day, it is still an attempt to drive business in based on their good record within the community, such as all their charity work (Boston Pizza Foundation), valentines day promotion, and such. Health check was posted in the past, kids cards and kids menu was posted in the past. Its all an attempt to advertise which Wikipedia is not for. There is no other non protected restaurant page that i can find that has potentially conflicting, sales driving information. If i didn't have a history with Boston Pizza that I do and i saw those facts, i would certainly be enticed to visit their establishment. Those facts drive me to alot of restaurants. Wikipedia is not the place for that. End of Story. If you want to go ahead and add a "charity work" section without promoting BP, but more highlighting the contributions they make to said charities, go ahead.Gsgeek540 (talk) 19:42, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not a heavy Wikipedia editor, just wanted to get it on file on the talk page. The Boston Pizza Foundation is not an insignificant charity organization. Charity foundations are WP:NOTABLE (is that the right article?). A mention of a notable charity seems worth including, using appropriate non-advertising language, Also, as a fan of their restaurants, the Valentine's Day heart-shaped pizza is just a cute promotion that has led to a tradition of pizza-ordering amongst myself and many other couples I know. If someone can figure out how to include that in the article in a non-promotional way, that would be cool. I'm not willing to fight the fight editing the article myself, but maybe someone who works on articles will see this talk page conversation and figure out a way to make that work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.207.65.88 (talk) 08:39, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at your user profile, I really question whether you are qualified to make any decisions on this article considering that you clearly have an acrimonious history with Boston Pizza on the professional level. Someone who has had heated professional negotiations with a company can't help but to have a bias. I don't really think you should be taking a WP:OWN attitude about the pages of a company you had a professional fall-out with, which your user page indicates is your intention. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.207.65.88 (talk) 08:53, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So a page that hasn't been updated in almost a year tells my life story? Give me a break! None the less, nothing on my page indicates a fall out with me and the company in question. We lost a bid. Whoopdido! We had 17 out of 35 we went for over a 10 year span. Welcome to the franchise world. We sold out to restructure our company and brand. Whoopdido! If you didn't get the memo, the group in question, listed on the page, has been back for over 6 months. Better and stronger then ever. Restaurants, real estate, restaurant real estate. RRG Inc. I still have millions invested in a hand full of stores, 2 of which I solely own. Another 2 that are in the top 10 in profit in Western Canada. In fact, was at meetings all last week at head office in Richmond. This is despite the fact I work full time for the city of calgary. So because i left restaurants on a full time basis to work for the city of calgary, something i have been striving for my entire career, i had a fall out? Give me a break. Park your ego, shove it in your pocket. I am beyond supportive of Boston Pizza and the charity work they do. I am the chair of my restaurant groups charity board that ultimately lead our valentines day, kids card and independent charity drives for BPF and related charities.
