Untitled

I doubt many people will ever read this but nearly all the info on the Black Manta page is copied almost word-for-word from page 46 of the DC Comics Encyclopedia (published by DK in the UK, ISBN: 1-4053-0591-6). I'm not entirely sure if that counts as copyright infringement but at the very least I find it pretty lazy of the original author to just open up a book and type out what they see...

Confusing Page Needs Editing

I find this to be one of the most confusing Wikipedia entries I've seen so far. Part of it is skipping from one fictional history to another. I can't help but think that some non-fictional history could precede the fictional history to give it some context and organization. Part of the problem I've noticed with Wiki pages for characters with a fictional history is that it jumps right into the fictional history as if it were real while some facts about the creation, publication history, editorial decisions, and cultural impact of the fictional character are important elements to include. The pages needs some organization, the skipping from one fictional history to another is very confusing. I think if there was more context provided it would be helpful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beanlynch (talkcontribs) 02:55, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Blackmanta.jpg

Image:Blackmanta.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 14:31, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Devil Ray article should stay

It has been addressed on the Devil Ray article that it should be merged with Black Manta. I think the two articles should remain seperate unless we are going to merge Black Vulcan article with the Black Lightning articles. I think that's the only fair thing to do. Magic-Man 8:08, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

It's not about "fair", it's about real world notability which an alternate version of a character does not constitute alone.~ZytheTalk to me! 00:24, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
McDuffie stated explictly that Devil Ray is a poorly veiled stand in for Black Manta. I vote merge. 66.109.248.114 23:50, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
With appearances in only two episodes, I question if Devil Ray satifies notarity criteria. 66.109.248.114 02:38, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Discussion closed w/ consensus to merge. 66.109.248.114 01:25, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

I actually came to this page from a Devil Ray link and I was confused when I got here. I think this was a poor choice. A very simple Devil Ray article could show that character's appearance, explain the similarity, and link to this page. That page could explain the debate about whether it is the same character or not. Whatever the creator intended, they created a new character with a different name. If Wikipedia doesn't acknowledge that then they're adding to the confusion which is not what Wikipedia's purpose was. It seems to me that this decision was made by people "in the know" who were too close to understand how this would be confusing to someone else. If this is going to be one page, the name "Devil Ray" should probably be made in parenthesis following the name "Black Manta" so that people who arrived from a Devil Ray link aren't confused. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beanlynch (talkcontribs) 03:02, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Main image

Can't we find a better image of this guy? Yeah, we all love Alex Ross, but the main image in a character's infobox should not be of him partially occluded because he's standing behind another, rather visually distinctive character. Bizarro gets virtually as much, if not more, panel space than Manta. Ford MF 19:26, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

I tend to agree. A much better, full body, solo image can easily be found and should be in the lead.72.89.142.185 (talk) 05:11, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Raped?

"As a youth he was kidnapped, raped and forced to work on a ship for an unspecified amount of time..."

Is this accurate? I don't recall rape figuring into ANY Silver Age story line due to the observance of the Comics Code at that time. --Joe Webster (talk) 12:02, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Maybe this happened in Justice, that series that Alex Ross illustrates? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.238.90.199 (talk) 21:46, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Autistic?

I've checked and double-checked Aquaman #6 (1993), and see no real reference to Manta being autistic. This leads me to be extremely skeptical of the use of the "autistic" descriptor in this article. Can someone provide a scan confirming that the label was applied to him in a book? Not trying to start a fight, but I really have to wonder if someone jumped to a conclusion and it's just stuck in the article unchallenged for a while.

DCUO and Young Justice

He recently appeared in DC Universe Online and the Young Justice Episode Downtime. So I'm adding that he appeared in DCUO into the video games section and his Young Justice appearance in the Television Section.174.3.167.186 (talk) 06:31, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Here are some images from the new Young Justice series along with some of his soldiers and one with his shoulder launched micro torpedo from which approved editors can choose and add to that section:

Manta’s name

While his name was confirmed to be David in Brightest Day, Aqualad II was named Jackson Hyde as he was adopted by the family (the Hydes) who featured in his parts of that series. Manta was never David Hyde, so giving him the surname of Kane in the upcoming film is not a change. If anything, this is confirmation of his actual last name. 78.146.241.14 (talk) 22:19, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
