I agree with Antonysson (and I don't even have a dog). Are there any actual references for the original interpretation? Because I think that several textual clues point to Bitter Green's being a dog. E.g I don't think, even in 1969 it was common for people to refer to a woman's lover as her "master." And "loving everyone that she meets" - is this lady a prostitute? Really, is there any actual evidence one way or the other?
