Unsourced names[edit]

I removed the following unsourced names from the list of famous users. Per our policy on biographies of living people, potentially derogatory unsourced information about living people cannot remain on Wikipedia. In case anyone wants to go searching for sources, here, without any opinion expressed about whether they have in fact used the Center's facilities, is the removed list:

Possible article merge[edit]

Dates[edit]

The Betty Ford Center merged with Hazelden Foundation on February 10, 2014, to create the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation... In 2015, the Betty Ford Center opened an outpatient addiction treatment clinic in West Los Angeles.

Proposed merge of Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation into Betty Ford Center[edit]

Contested BLAR (@Graywalls:). This article has a longer history and is also about the center that predated the merger of the two. The Hazelden article is UPE and only focuses on the history of the merged organizations. @Star Mississippi:, A lot of it is promotional fluff and routine thing, such as opening of the facility. Do you believe there should be multiple articles or selectively merge into one? For simplicity, calling them Hazelden and BFC to distinguish and not type out the full name in each instance.

I think the first two "paragraphs" (as written, not that they should be) of BFC are worth retention in addition to the one you added to Hazelden. BFC operated for ~ 30 years before merging and that history is useful without being promotional, or can be tweaked to be so. I think the common name is probably BFC, but don't feel strongly about that as it will redirect if it's not the primary. What's the 3rd article? I thought we were just talking about Hazelden and BFC? Oh I see, it's the original Hazelden which you redirected. For clarity for any wandering in, my Hazelden above was re Hazelden BFF, not the main Foundation.

I do think there should be one article since all three were short. Looking at this version before you redirected, I agree it's v. promotional, moreso IMO than BFC. I think we could easily have a paragraph on the pre-merger histories with level 2 headers if even needed and a section on post 2014. I know google doesn't answer it, but Betty Ford Center/Clinic still seems to be the predominant usage. Star Mississippi 02:47, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Star Mississippi:, Betty Ford Center merged with Hazelden to become the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation and the very last is the current name. So, from titling perspective, I think it would make sense to use the latest name and re-direct the companies that formed into it.

We could work it into Better Ford Center, delete the HBFF created by UPE to make way, or work it into HBFF that's in place now. Isn't it the convention to use the latest name? Graywalls (talk) 22:55, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Per my reading of WP:COMMONNAME, no. It's what is most commonly used which remains BF Center/Clinic. OUtside of sourcing where folks use the full name for branding and other reasons, it still skews heavily to BFC. I think Hazelden makes sense as the redirect.
