Cryogenics/Cryonics

What are you talking about? In the show, they also use the correct version, eg. In the Pilot(around the 7:30 mark), when Veronica is first telling Ted that the company wants to freeze Phil, she says, "..Phil, the company cryonically wants to freeze him". You can distinctively hear her say cryonically which is the correct word so yeah, there shouldn't be any argument about this. The correct word and what the characters in the show use in the show is cryonically and thahs what is used in the article. Killeroid (talk) 08:11, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Gay/Lesbian characters

Only one of the cast members is gay. I dont know where the rumor started about the all most of the cast members being gay/lesbian because ABC wanted to capitalize of will and grace but its false since only one cast member is gay. Veridian Dynamics

since VD and its commercials are quite important for the show, maybe someone wants to extend the article in the future respectively. abc has setup a small advertisment page available at http://veridiandynamics.com/, but there is not a lot of content, just a few funny videos. the reason why i started this section is this: today i traced the VD logo from the first advertisment shown in the pilot and created a svg. it was quite some work, because of the different fonts used. since the wp policies are pretty strict and im new, i dont want to upload it yet. as far as i can tell from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Logos it would be perfectly ok to upload it, if it is significant for the article. if someone expands the article and wants to use the logo, just mail me. a preview can be seen here: http://img228.imageshack.us/i/veridiandynamicsyay.png/ AmenophisIII (talk) 14:39, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

This topic was started by a snippy know-nothing. Single camera is a production style for sitcoms, it was fairly rare around 2006-2007, but is quickly becoming the norm. It is relevant to note that it is made in the single camera style because it is relevant. If an article starts off saying that a movie is a film noir, you needn't post "This is relevant how?". It is relevant and your question is not.

For the guy who asked "How is it single camera?? The scenes are clearly shot from a number of different angles!?", there is a website called wikipedia.org where they have an article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-camera_setup, so please spend ten seconds there before asking a question that is already answered in the same place you are about to ask the question.

The term "single camera" isn't meant to be the maximum number of cameras that can be owned/rented/used by a producer, it is just a production style.

It isn't a literal term. Much like film noir means black film but isn't just a black piece of film that results from the production, single camera is just a style.

Approximately 90% of all American sitcoms have used the standard live audience multiple camera style, where they normally have three camera operators using rolling camera tripods just like a TV news set has (but usually film, not video), moving back and forth across the stage in front of the set, usually getting a crossed view of the action from different angles, with all three filming at once. When the show stars athletes or singers (who aren't singers, either), it takes about eight hours to get twenty minutes in the can, but when the show employs real actors, it goes by very quickly, and the final edited result is relying on 2-3 views most of the time. In almost every case, it is filmed from the start to the end, where single camera shows are shot in whatever order works with the cast and filming permits. Multi-camera has almost no set up shots, where the single camera style either has shots set up on various tripods, cranes, and dollies, or using a handheld camera or Steadicam.

An error in another comment posted above (and some articles) about single camera is that it is done as a low budget cost-cutting measure. That isn't true now, and probably never was. They spent more on the production of last season of My Name is Earl than they could possibly spend on a sitcom stage. My suspicion is that the producers pad their pay by renting excessive resources from their own company or from vendors who are giving them a kickback (yes, it is a federal crime, but has been done in every industry and every country since the beginning of time, so I don't think TV types are above that). For example, in one episode of My Name is Earl, they got filming permits for four city blocks of L.A., closing off both curbs for an entire city block for three days, and had production trucks, generators, and toilets lined up for almost an entire block, and what came out of that was a ten-minute apartment interior/yard scene that could have been shot for $50 with a camcorder. They spent three days, paying 50+ union people plus night security, where in the live studio, they'd have to do that plus all the rest of the show while the same audience is still seated, so it is far cheaper to do multi-camera.--208.127.100.22 (talk) 09:49, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

I think the article should expend on why the show was cancelled. Makes me wonder why did they cancel it as well. Low ratings? Strange, since everything else was pretty "stale" when "Better off Ted" came in... and lets face it - evil corporation bent on world domination? inaccuracy in latest update

The top paragraph now claims that the first of the two unaired-in-the-US episodes is scheduled for August 24 in Australia. That's incorrect. The first of the two already aired in Australia on the 17th; it's the second one, aka the season 2 finale that airs on the 24th. Looks good. I have one more remaining concern after double-checking the article. The ratings table feels a bit out of place; it would fit better in the list of episodes for the series.
