Ships on the Patrol: HMS Sirius (1967)[edit]

Dear Nigel Ish, in accordance with the information at HMS Sirius I have added this frigate to the warships enforcing the patrol. Does the source I've cited actually include that information? Can you add any other escorts and dates to the listing? Cheers and very many thanks, Buckshot06 (talk) 08:45, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Osborne & Sowdon does not support the statement that Sirius carried out a Beira patrol in January 1967, note that it isn't used in the Sirius article to support that fact - the only use in that paragraph is to cite the ship joining the 24 Escort Squadron. I didn't add the text about the Beira patrol and don't know whether it is supported by the 1968 Navy Days programme.Nigel Ish (talk) 10:41, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sirius was reported [1] as sailing for Singapore to join the 2nd Destroyer Squadron on 28 November 1966. It is quite likely that Sirius did a stint on the Beira patrol on the way out - however, I haven't found a source yet.Nigel Ish (talk) 10:58, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Found a source (and added it) for Sirius taking part in the patrol.Nigel Ish (talk) 11:17, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks Nigel; quick work. Do your main post-war escort ship sources typically note deployments to the Beira Patrol, with exact dates etc? Ideally this page should have a full list. Buckshot06 (talk) 17:55, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've not seen anything like a definitive list - more like occasional mentions in sources like Critchley (i.e. "took part in the Beira Patrol during 19xx") and news type mentions in Navy News.Nigel Ish (talk) 18:28, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No, there is no list that I've seen anywhere. That's my point/question: do we have the sources to build one? But you appear to have answered my question: reliable secondary sources, like Critchley, sometimes mention a ship's deployment. Is it possible to do a spin through Critchley for all such mentions? Such a sweep wouldn't pick up everything - for example Critchley didn't mention Sirius's participation.Nigel Ish (talk) 19:05, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, it would be good, in time, to go through all the many fine books on British escorts since 1945. But Critchley sounds like a good place to start. Buckshot06 (talk) 19:41, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've started a list - although very incomplete.Nigel Ish (talk) 23:21, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Great!! Grand start!! Buckshot06 (talk) 06:13, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
