Find correct name
The airport is not listed as João Paulo II anywhere.
The airport's own website calls itself simply Ponta Delgada, and has no mention of João Paulo.
Template:Regions of Portugal: statistical (NUTS3) subregions and intercommunal entities are confused; they are not the same in all regions, and should be sublisted separately in each region: intermunicipal entities are sometimes larger and split by subregions (e.g. the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon has two subregions), some intercommunal entities are containing only parts of subregions. All subregions should be listed explicitly and not assume they are only intermunicipal entities (which accessorily are not statistic subdivisions but real administrative entities, so they should be listed below, probably using a smaller font: we can safely eliminate the subgrouping by type of intermunicipal entity from this box).
A fact from Battle of Fukuda Bay appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 15 December 2015 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that the Battle of Fukuda Bay in 1565 was the first recorded naval battle between Europeans and the Japanese?
The only source referenced in the article that is available online is the 1951 Boxer book, The Christian Century in Japan. Reference [8] of the article concerns a 1561 brawl and points to page 33 of the book. But page 33 of the version available online has no mention of fighting, and instead deals with an entirely unrelated topic, see here. Page 36 of the book is meant to describe the Japanese attacking [article ref. 12] and carrying away a desk [article ref. 14]; page 36 of the online book discusses events in the 1540s, some twenty years earlier.
I also found it a bit strange that I could not find any mention of this event in the Japanese Wikipedia. I was hoping to link it to a relevant article there. Underbar dk, could you please check the sourcing in the article? If you are aware of any other online sources, I would love to have a look at them. Many thanks, Athomeinkobe, for catching my mistake in referencing the Boxer sources. Christian Century does not mention this event, but his other work Fildagos does, and I must have mixed up the two books somewhere along the way. The Japanese source I cited is available online here [1], found by searching the word 福田浦 (Fukudaura). Thanks for your response and providing the links Underbar dk. By the way, do any of your sources mention the month or season that the event occurred in? I'm guessing they don't, as the Japanese source you just linked to only mentions the year. On a minor point, the Japanese book plus the Japanese wiki pages suggest that Fukuda is within modern Nagasaki city, so I'll make that change. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 02:56, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Athomeinkobe: You are right in assuming that my sources did not mention the dates of this event explicitly. However, we can surmise the date has to be around autumn due to the Portuguese's sailing schedule: "The carrack finally left for Japan [from Macau] with the south-west monsoon between the end of June and the beginning of August, the voyage to Southern Kyushu taking anything from twelve to thirty days. The ship remained in port until the north-east monsoon set in at the end of October or beginning of November; and subsequently set sail for Macao with her precious cargo of silver bullion at any time between November and March." (Boxer, Fildagos, pp.15-16). We also know that the carrack of 1565 left Fukuda for Macao in November, according to schedule. _dk (talk) 07:34, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is only a start, but I plan to expand on it, including with some of the text from the Japanese source about the opening of the ports and the battle.
