First Case[edit]

Detective Comics #265 claims to show Batman's first case. Should this be added to his history? 173.54.228.160 (talk) 23:09, 11 April 2021 (UTC)Josh220[reply]

Survey[edit]

Since the question of merging has been proposed of Dick Grayson (Earth-Two) with Dick Grayson, this article falls under the same criteria. Should this be merged with Batman? NetK 02:41, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Support or Oppose - ~~~~

  • Oppose - Batman and Earth-Two Batman are completey unique and distinct characters. Combining the two into one entry would be cluttered and confusing. Each Batman existed in a seperate universe and therefore should exist in seperate Wikipedia articles. Cglendening 03:05, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - This character is unique and distinct, and to merge the two stifles more comprehensive entries without just cause. NetK 02:41, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reluctant Oppose I don't think the character in and of itself merits to have been split off. However, given the parent article's size, the split seems justified as a measure to reduce its length and make it less cumbersome. — J Greb 03:56, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - The famous Super hero pages are getting too big, and this is a good way to split them. - Peregrinefisher 18:33, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Oppose- similar opinion as Peregrinefisher --Lasttan 21:04, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Very Strong Oppose- they're two different characters. - darknus823
  • Super-Ultra-Ultimate & Very Strongly Support - The alternate Captain America's are all merged into the parent article, including the Ultimates version which probably has more of a back story than Batman Earth 2. (Narkstraws 01:39, 25 January 2007 (UTC))[reply]
  • Oppose If remerged the article would lengthen further. Since it'll probably have to be split sooner or later I'd leave the separation as is. 193.129.65.37 09:48, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Merge - No reason to have a split-off article about material that could be mentioned in the Batman page. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 04:15, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First appearance[edit]

2¢... While the argument to cite the first appearance of the progenitor character is strong, there is a difference between "current", "retcon", and "version", especially with "First appearance". "First appearance" is the first time a character, or a particular version of it, first saw print. This isn't something that can normally be retconned, save if the character's alter ego is never given (ie, a writer decides that Hero A from Creator 1 is a second identity of the earlier Hero B from Creator 2).

Giving this article another look, I can see the reason to list "Historical: Detective #27". That is the first appearance of the progenitor character. I would argue though, that "This version: JLofA #82" or "Current:" are more appropriate than "Retcon:" since that is the first appearance of the S-2 version of Batman in print. Up to that point the Batman character had just one history.
