WP:MILHIST Assessment

A nice start - includes an image of the ensign, and a nice list of the organization and the ships. It appears to be long, but the actual prose content is quite short. Expansion is surely needed; also, there are no references listed. LordAmeth 11:18, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Intro edited

Irrelevant comparison with Indian Navy removed. It was reading like a POV article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.194.224.97 (talk) 04:29, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Future Expansion Plan

I have added this section based on different newspaper reportz and Janes' article. This section was created in the past by someone else with information not supported by any reference and appeared exaggerated by some extent, which subsequently got removed. This time I have tried to give adequate reference from reliable media sources. Qgr (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:18, 18 March 2009 (UTC).

Ship list duplication

Could somebody who knows more about the Bangladesh Navy than I do have a look at the "Bangladesh Navy Ships/Establishments" section of this article and the article List of ships of the Bangladesh Navy? There is a lot of duplication between the two, along with a lot of inconsistency.

My suggestion would be to move the tables to the List article (updated to account for the vessels listed there and not here), and replace them with a couple of paragraphs of overview here (how many ships and of what type, where sourced from and why, etc...the "Future Expansion Plan" section could probably be merged into this). -- saberwyn 04:39, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Numbers of Frigates in Bangladesh Navy

In this wiki entry's sub-heading "Surface Combatants", some body (user:180.149.7.203) edited the numbers of frigates in Bangladeshi Navy as "8". This, 8 frigates in numbers, could probably be counting of the following frigates.

(1) BNS Osman (built in 1986- BD obtained it in 1989) (ex-Xiangtan from China)

(2) BNS Bangabandhu [former name: BNS Khalid Bin Walid] (built in 1998- BD obtained in 2001)

(3) BNS Somudro Joy (built in 1972- BD obtained ex-Jarvis "Free of Charge" from USA in 2013)

(4) BNS Umar Farooq (built in 1953- BD obtained in 1976) (ex-Llandaff from UK)

(5) BNS Abu Bakar (built in 1953- BD obtained in 1982)(ex-Lynx from UK)

(6) BNS Ali Haider (built in 1945- BD obtained in 1978) (ex-Jaguar from UK)

[2 frigates in Order from China- 2 Type 053H2 (Jianghu-III)frigates]

(7) Huangshi (535- Chinese Navy- built in 1986)

(8) Wuhu (536- Chinese Navy- built in 1987)

If some one combine 6+2, it will be 8 (including frigates "in order", although they are not yet in-service)

However, "BNS Ali Haider"(6)-68 years old aging frigate- is no longer in service according to the records. So, Bangladesh Navy currently has only FIVE frigates in service right this moment.

Again, "Huanshi"(7) and "Wuhu"(8) have not been registered as Bangladesh Navy frigates; they are still in order- and they are not part of Bangladesh Navy right this moment! So, they cannot not be counted as Bangladeshi frigates.

"BNS Umar Farooq"(4) and "BNS Abu Bakar"(5)- both 60 years old aging frigates- are in the process of being decommissioned. These two frigates will be replaced with Huangshi(7) and Wuhu(8). So, out of current five active frigates, two frigates will retire- leaving three active frigates (5-2=3) soon. Then, two Chinese frigates will replace the retired twos- 3 remaining +2 new= 5. Therefore, after the replacement of Type 053H2 two Chinese frigates with Umar Farooq & Abu Bakar, the final numbers of Bangladesh Navy's frigates will still be FIVE.

In conclusion, it is found that current active frigates in BD Navy are only FIVE frigates. After replacement with two Chinese frigates, there will still be FIVE frigates in BD Navy in near future. (We cannot count the de-commissioned ships!)

Above results show that there are NO "eight" frigates in BD Navy. Numbers of frigates edited by someone in this wiki entry under sub-heading "Surface Combatants" is wrong! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blackxrays (talkcontribs) 08:48, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

I've changed the number to five. Thomas.W talk to me 14:00, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Biased view?

The whole article seems a bit biased, as if the Navy wrote it themselves. Nothing terrible, but could do with tweeking.

Merger proposal

I propose that Exercise Somudro Ghurni be merged into Bangladesh Navy. Exercise Somudro Ghurni is not notable on its own because, although it cites three sources, they are not intellectually independent of each other. They are all based on the same navy press release. Although supposedly an annual exercise, coverage also fails WP:SUSTAINED because it is all from a single day. Therefore the topic does not warrant a stand alone article at this time.

The content in Exercise Somudro Ghurni can be explained in the context of Bangladesh Navy, and the Bangladesh Navy article is of a reasonable size so that the merging of Exercise Somudro Ghurni will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. --Worldbruce (talk) 04:46, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

Muslim-majority navy

@Adamgerber, this navy is muslim-majority and consists of two submarines, you should edit and keep an eye on this page also, as it neighbors India (though Sheikh Hasina government maintains good relationship with India, but why two submarines and ten army divisions?). Fayaz Rahman (talk) 03:52, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

@Fayaz Rahman: Yes I watch over this page and this your last warning about WP:NOTFORUM. Adamgerber80 (talk) 15:59, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

The individuals whose names you are repeatedly adding to the article, are not mentioned on that page. Further, these appointments probably change on a regular basis. They are not significant for this article. MPS1992 (talk) 00:54, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Tender for Patrol Craft

@SRS 00: The argument here is the same per Talk:Bangladesh Air Force. Floating of a tender is not enough of a justification to add it to Wikipedia per WP:NOTNEWS. Once, we have an order placed, it can be added. Adamgerber80 (talk) 17:29, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
