fluoroalkylsilanes The MSDS says this stuff is fluorinated naphtha. Meaning, this stuff is basically just purified heavy mineral oil that has been treated with Fluorine which swaps out the Hydrogen so that it sticks to the glass. (F is one of the only elements that can react with silicon dioxide). It's basically like coating your wind screen with a thin layer of petroleum oil, except it chemically bonds with the glass.

I think whoever wrote this article is confusing the chemistry with rain-x, which is a silicon based product.
