Pending Trade[edit]

The pending trade has been reported by many reputable sources. Would it not be appropriate to note that under the NBA section, that a pending trade will take place, once the 30 day waiting requirement for rookie contracts has passed?

Canadian National Team[edit]

Andrew Wiggins is a member of the Canadian national men's basketball team. This is a notable piece of information that should be in the lede; however, there is an editor that keeps removing this fact from the lede. I placed this notable fact in the lede and the other editor removed it with the false argument (twice) that "(no other nba player wiki pages have that in the opening paragraph. Look around other NBA players pages and you will see. That is why there is an international career section dedicated to international play.)" The problem is that comment is simple not true. See: James Harden, Anthony Davis (basketball), DeMarcus Cousins, and Mason Plumlee, just to name a few.) There are many different NBA players that have this information in the lede of the article about them. Also, even it was true (which of course it isn't) that doesn't mean the information cannot go into the lede or that it must kept out of the lede. If it is notable for the lede then it should be there. In Wiggins case, it is notable because he is only one year into his NBA career and he one of very few NBA players on the Canadian National Team. There needs to be a reason given for its exclusion because the argument that other NBA players don't have their international team listing in the lede is simply not true and not a good reason.--ML (talk) 22:43, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I would say that having " He is a member of the Canada national team" in the opening paragraph is not required. If you look at the majority if not all NBA players Wikipedia pages they would only have it mentioned if they won a medal with the national senior team, which Wiggins has not, at the moment anyway. Harden, Davis, Cousins have all won Gold medals at the two major international basketball tournaments the Olympics and the World Cup. From Demarcus Cousins page "He won a gold medal as a member of the United States national team in the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2014" Other thoughts and opinions please? Leave it as is for now until we come to a consensus.--User:Underbelly 50 (talk) 23:17, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's totally justifiable to put that sentence in the opening. Wiggins just made his senior national team debut a few days ago in the Tuto Marchand Cup, so he's officially a member of the team now. The team won a silver medal last month at a major tournament, the Pan American Games, Canada Basketball has been on the rise for a few years now, as evidenced by the large number of Canadians selected in the first round of the NBA draft in recent years, and several medals won by the junior national team in that same period (with Wiggins contributing to two of those medals). Also of note, Steve Nash, an eight-time All-Star and potential Hall of Famer, has been the team's general manager since 2012. The sentence definitely should be included. I agree. Wiggins is a young player and his participation with the Canadian National Team is an important and notable aspect of his career, justifying a mention in the lede. By the way, we don't decide if something should be in lede based upon the total arbitrary process that User:Underbelly 50 has devised which is basically based upon whatever criteria he comes up with that day to justify whatever edit he wants to make.--ML (talk) 02:43, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For his 2019 season, there was a typo for the date of one of his games. Specifically, in this sentence, "He topped that total with 31 points on January 6 against Boston Celtics.", the date should be corrected to January 2 (based on the source of that sentence) Okhtaya (talk) 20:53, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
