Untitled[edit]

There is no evidence that Amelia Sach and Annie Walters had anything sort of relationship except professional. It is most likley that Amelia was already engaged in baby farming before she met Annie Walters (and had been since 1901).

"lying in" Is the act of stay for labor purposes. The Pregnant woman would stay either early in her pregnancy to avoid being seen as pregnant, or later, near her due date. She would be able to have the baby, and then leave the child in the care of who ever runs the facility. And,depending on the mother, she could come back for the baby or leave with no smear to her name and no one the wiser. This practice still happens today with young mothers and parents who desire to hide her pregnancy and birth. At its roots, its old fashioned whore shaming.
