Not too big. Hopefully i may complete it reasonably soon. Regards, Pavanjandhyala (talk) 06:43, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lead
  • Can we let our readers know the language or backdrop of "Alibaba and the Forty Thieves"? I guess it was an Arabic story.
  • Filming is a better word compared to Shooting IMHO when things are described using a single line.
 Done. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:10, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Released on 14 January 1956 during the festive occasion of Thai Pongal, Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum received positive reviews and became a success at the box office which was largely attributed to it being the first full-length colour film in South India." -- This is a bit long and i advise you to split it into two.
Split and somewhat reworded. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:48, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is advisable to mention the director of the Telugu-language remake.
Mentioned. But since the original source does not mention his name, I'll have to find one that does. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:10, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Plot and Cast
  • Agreed the article about the protagonist of the tale is Ali Baba. But, when the title is saying "Alibabavum", is there any reason we are mentioning Ali and Baba as two separate words instead of Alibaba as a single word?
While I think "Ali Baba" is correctly two separate words, Tamil people often have a habit of stretching names by joining words and adding new alphabets to fill the gaps (Eg: Kamal Haasan is often written as Kamalahasan). Since the title card reads "Alibabavum", I know that is also the title character's name. So I've written the character's name as Alibaba. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:50, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In Tamil, "Alibabavum" generally refers to "Alibaba and".  — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 14:35, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I know that pretty well, Ssven2. :) Pavanjandhyala (talk) 04:59, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why Marziana is pretending to heed Kasim's order? Is it a voluntary act to declare and take the knife or did he order her to do so?
It is clearly a facade. She pretended to heed Kassim so that he wouldn't try to stop her from freeing Ali Baba.Kailash29792 (talk) 06:37, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why the cobbler's death was mentioned as "However"? I don't think so that removing this word would make any actual difference.
 Done removed. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:09, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please mention "Salaam Babu" as a song.
 Done Kailash29792 (talk) 08:09, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Production
  • "A. K. Chopra and K. N. Dhandayudapani Pillai were in charge of the choreography" -- of? dance or action scenes? Please mention it. Because, the film seems to have enough of both.
  • "The film's story is credited to the Modern Theatre's Story Department." -- this line should be immediately after the remake rights and screenplay purchase. Not compulsory, but would make more sense.
 Done Kailash29792 (talk) 11:48, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum became the second major Tamil film adaptation of the story of Ali Baba, the first being a 1941 film, directed by N. S. Krishnan." -- i think "was" is better than "became".
  • A. J. Dominic has been introduced already. Just say Dominic in the second mention. One more thing, "also designed"? Was he a part of the 1941 film as well or is there something lost in translation?
I've shifted info about Dominic designing the cave to "filming" section. See if it fits well. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:48, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It does. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 13:45, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum was shot entirely on indoor sets, with the exception of a few riding sequences" -- better to say horse riding.
 Done Kailash29792 (talk) 11:48, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Gevacolor is linked in the same sentence twice.
Delinked second instance. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:48, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is there any reason why Ramachandran was unable to attend the shoot?
Nope, the source doesn't say why. I also double-checked, and it says "MGR varavillai", meaning "MGR did not come". It does not state that he was unable to come (though I'm certain he was unable to come), so I've reworded. Will a footnote like "the reason is not mentioned by The Hindu (Tamil)" do? Kailash29792 (talk) 11:48, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Much better. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 13:45, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
 Done added footnote. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:19, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Music
  • Is it actually necessary to mention "the original film" in the second line of first paragraph? Wasn't it explained above?
Removed. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:17, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I suggest you to add a note for Dilruba for non-Arabic readers.
 Done please do some proof-reading on this. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:17, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I do not see any issues with it. It is fine. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 13:45, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Release and reception
  • Theodore Baskaran's review is a case of WP:QUOTEFARM.
  • Similar issue with Dhananjayan as well.
You may now see if the quotes are trimmed down well enough. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:19, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In popular culture and other issues
  • I don't know about all the Tamil films here, but i don't think so that in Baba, Rajinikanth and his friends just watch it. I remember them making some thematic comments in a particular instance. Then, is this the film played?
Ssven added this. Since I've not seen Baba (and never will), Ssven may know what really happened. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:48, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Anything to say or explain Ssven2? Pavanjandhyala (talk) 13:45, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pavanjandhyala: They do watch that particular scene from Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum I mentioned in Baba. Rajinikanth's character, Baba, is surprised that the cave immediately shuts upon saying the magic words "Close Sesame" and says, "MGR himself has been fooled" (something like that), implying that he does not consider it a miracle that the door simply closed when MGR says "Close Sesame".  — Ssven2 Speak 2 me 14:33, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you should add this Kailash. Not everything, but at least mention it. Just because a protagonist is watching a scene on TV plainly makes hardly sense unless there is something. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 14:50, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hey, archive reference no. 2. It is redirecting directly to Bigflix.
Damn! This source displayed the names of some of the characters for which reliable sources are otherwise unavailable. No archive of the source displays their names though. I really wished sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic provided character names for all Indian films. Could I cite the film itself for these characters (i.e. the time mark at which their names are first mentioned)? Kailash29792 (talk) 12:53, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You can, provided there is no last resort. This case surely does not have any, so you can proceed.
Done you may check the cast list. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:19, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Conclusion

Apart from a few issues listed above, i find this article well written and comprehensive enough to the best of my knowledge. Once the nominator and/or others address these concerns, i shall be promoting this nomination. Regards, Pavanjandhyala (talk) 10:55, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
