Unsung heroes of Indian freedom[edit]

Many people came together for the country's independence. However, not much has been written about about them this Independence Day let's find out more:

Peer Ali Khan was an Indian revolutionary and rebel who participated in the Indian Independence movement. He was given capital punishment for participating in the freedom struggle of 1857. On 7 july, 1857, Khan was hanged in full publich view by William Tayler, the then Commissioner of patna along 14 other rebellions.

Matangini Hazra was an Indian revolutionary who participated in the Indian independence movement until she was shot dead by the British Indian police in front of the Tamluk police station on 29 september 1942.

The name of muslim Vellori does not ring a bell now but for an older generation of Bangaloreans, particulary Muslims in the city, that name is remembered with a sort of awe as he was a valiant freedom fighter.

Muhammad Abdul wahid khan known as Muslim Vellori. He is particularly rememberd for his role during the Khilafat movement. Where he met many prominent freedom fighters Including Mahatma Gandhi, the Ali brothers.
